toy day, covid 2 year reflections, daylight savings

last week i binge watched 'inventing anna' on netflix. have you seen it? it's based on a true story of a woman who posed as a fake german heiress in new york city and scammed people and businesses out of hundreds of thousands of dollars from 2014-2017 and later served prison time for it. wild story!

last thursday after school, azalea and her friend simone had their long awaited "toy day." meaning they both saved up their own money to go buy some new toys at target. simone's dad took them and they had a great time. azalea got an OMG doll and a roblox giftcard. i know her days of getting excited about toys are numbered, so i'm really trying to savor it.

march 11th marked 2 years since the beginning of the pandemic (for us in seattle). in a few weeks span, we went from hearing about a new virus discovered in china, to hearing about an outbreak at a nursing home in a suburb of seattle, to the school district and most employers declaring that they were closing for 2 weeks to flatten the curve and...we all know what happened after that.

it's been a wild ride the last 2 years. last year on march 11th, we hadn't been vaccinated yet and the kids were still doing remote school and i was feeling so burnt out. i'm happy to report things are finally feeling semi-normal here again. the kids have been in-person at school all year, thatcher is starting to spend more time in the office, and the mask mandate ended in washington over the weekend (though we will probably continue to still wear ours for a while). i know another variant could come along at any time, but for now i plan to enjoy the low case numbers as a breath of fresh air.

friday night we made pizza for dinner and watched (the second to last) ice age movie. saturday morning azalea had a futsal game. it was the warmest, sunniest one yet. but they got their butts kicked. ;)

the kids played with sisi and thelonius all afternoon. we got burgers and shakes from scooters for dinner and watched "seeing red" on disney+. it was very entertaining!

sunday was daylight savings. we mostly hung out at home. azalea and i went to the grocery store and the library. we read a lot :) we made bbq pulled pork in the crock pot for dinner. thatcher also finished prepping our passport paperwork, which we will submit this week. one step closer to going to prague this summer!
