baby #2: telling our families (adjusted time is 10 weeks)

telling our families the second time around was fun, but didn't feel quite as monumental as the first time - which was to be expected. i debated whether to tell our parents before or after my first pre-natal appointment (at 8 weeks), i opted to do it before, for a couple reasons. 1. i needed someone to watch azalea when we went to the appt (ha - the convenience factor) and 2. i simply don't enjoy the early days in pregnancy when i feel like i'm constantly sneaking around with this big secret. i wouldn't say i'm superstitious about telling people early on, but there is a part of me that feels like i'm not officially pregnant until the doctor tells me i am. call me crazy :)

we told my parents on monday, june 3rd, when we went to their house for dinner. our family friends were in town from portland and another couple who are good mutual friends were there too, as well as my brother!

i printed this picture at target (look familiar?) and popped in into a frame to give them.

while everyone was hanging out on the back patio before dinner, i handed the frame to azalea in the house and told her to bring it to grandma and grandpa. she walked outside and handed it to my dad first. he says "oh, what's this?"....then looks closely and his face lights up. my mom was half watching from across the patio. i bring it to her and she looks at it and gives me a hug...and then drops a bombshell on me:

she confesses sheepishly that she's known "for a few weeks" that i was pregnant. um what? how? i was so confused! apparently the night they watched azalea at our house when we went to a wedding in may (3 days after we found out), she went on the computer to use the internet and guess who's google calendar popped-up a notification on the screen that said "5 weeks"? yep. this girl's! she said she saw it and thought "oh noooo, i wasn't supposed to see that!" haha. she didn't want to tell me she knew (and she didn't even tell my dad. i can't believe it!). she saw me quite a few times over the next few weeks and never said a thing. she felt so bad that she found out that way, but i honestly thought it was funny more than anything. stupid calendar! of course she was very happy for us (and happy that she didn't have to keep that secret anymore) haha! as expected, my dad gave me a little crap about having a baby in january because that is when they are in florida, but i told him it's fine and that i'm planning to spend at least a week at their condo during my leave with both kiddos. brilliant right? my brother is really excited for baby too. he loooove babies (and he's single. know any cute upper 20 something girls for him?) :)

we told thatcher's parents two nights later. we brought over the same picture in a frame and thatcher handed it to azalea and told her to bring it to grandma and grandpa. they were both very excited to hear the news and said they had been wondering if we might be making this announcement soon. :) we talked about how i've been feeling, sibling age spacing, etc. it felt good to share the news with both sets of grandparents who are just as excited as we are! here's a blurry pic from that night:

Ahhh, sharing the news about a new baby is always so exciting - especially when it's family!!

Hilarious that your mom KNEW all along. My Mom 'knew' with Alexa, too, but it wasn't from anything but speculation! haha

Oh, so exciting! I'm sure everyone is just over-the-moon happy for you!! Your mom knowing is so funny! My mom wouldn't say anything either had she found out and most likely wouldn't tell my dad since he's horrible at keeping secrets! You're brave to travel on your own to FL with 2 littles - I'm sure you'll do fine, though!

And yes, if somebody does know a cute lady for an early 30 year old guy I know somebody who's looking too!! Haha!

dah!! i love all these moments!! it makes me happy to know what they feel like now. so happy for you!
So I am a few posts behind but trying to catch up! I am a much better instagrammer than blogger - I feel like I rarely ever turn on my computer to blog or comment on others and can never comment through my phone. Issues I tell you ;P

That is so sweet that your mom kept it a secret for weeks, I am sure she was bursting to tell you. I'm a upper 20's single girl ;) It's difficult to find people to date once you're out of college I think, the pool of people your age with the same interests and things in common decreases dramatically.
