last monday the kids had no school for yom kippur. i love that the district gives days off for all christian, muslim, and jewish holidays. thatcher left very early for a 2-night trip to LA for work (yes, again). the rest of us slept in, which was really nice. in the late morning, ashford had an orthodontist appointment - just a quick check of his invisalign progress. in the afternoon azalea had her first behind the wheel driving lesson with an instructor. they pick up and drop off at the high school. she was a little nervous because she only has about 2 hours of practice so far (they recommended 20!!!). she said it went well, and the biggest thing they worked on was parking, as well as driving some residential streets. i had planned to make soup for dinner, but the day got away from me, so we went to culver's for dinner instead - darn ;) we also went to menard's to look at halloween decorations just for fun.
tuesday was back to school. it was a beautiful day - the first day of fall! i got out some decor from the bins and also had my annual viewing of 'you've got mail'. it took a lot of convincing to get winnie to sit here with me.
azalea went to her friend sylvia's after school. i made a yummy new soup recipe for dinner in the crock pot. tortellini with italian sausage and spinach. it was really good.
my post-dinner walks with winnie are almost completely in the dark now. wahhh.
wednesday i ran errands and had a work call in the morning. in the afternoon i got a hair cut from my friend caylia at her salon. it was nice to catch up with her for the hour. thatcher flew back from LA but only had a few hours at home before he had to fly to cleveland that night (i know, crazy). i invited my mom and brother over for dinner. i made a lasagna, caesar salad, and garlic bread. after dinner we all watched some of the old home VHS i got converted onto a hard drive last spring. we all loved it. bittersweet to see my dad for sure.
thursday i took winnie to doggy daycare (i was ready for a break - ha). i went to the gym and worked in the morning. i got lunch at 'honey and rye' and did a little shopping in the afternoon. azalea and i picked her up when she got home from school. in the evening i had curriculum night at ashford's school (thatcher was bummed to miss it). i got to go to all of his classes for 10 minutes each and they even have a snack in the cafeteria for "lunch" time. i saw a few moms i know, but it still feels like i hardly know anyone. so strange after the familiar school parent community i had in seattle. i had book club on the calendar this night as well, but i ended up skipping it as there was too many things on my plate.
friday was picture day for ashford. they already sent the proofs the same day! blew my mind. i had a typical weekday and i was thankful for finishing the work/school week and having everyone under one roof again. we made tacos for dinner and thatcher and i walked winnie in the evening.
saturday we ran errands, cleaned the house, and thatcher did some projects outside. we were supposed to go to our friends liz and joe's for dinner, but they needed to cancel. my mom was looking for a buddy to join her at 'animales' BBQ to see a band she likes that evening. i told her i would join her! we had a really fun night together. we got ribs and sides and then watched the band. we also ran into some people we each know, which was fun. there were tons of kids up by the stage dancing, but i took a picture after they left.
sunday morning thatcher made a savory puff pastry breakfast. it had mixed reviews. ha! i ran errands and did stuff around the house. in the afternoon thatcher and the kids headed to the twins game with free tickets we had from ashford doing the twins baseball camp over the summer. the twins won and ashford got a game ball (from a different game given to him by an usher).
i did not go, because i had a gathering with some of my high school girlfriends. we took a break over the summer, but we're back at it again. a lot of the group couldn't make it this time, but a smaller group is not a bad thing because everyone can catch up. it was hosted by nicole and she made tacos and everyone brought something to share. i made an apple cake with cinnamon-sugar topping, but i forgot to take a picture.

here comes another week, which leads to october! eeek.
