before i get to our week, something i want to remember about last week: dave ryan of the 'dave ryan in the morning show' on our local radio station KDWB recently announced that his last day on the air (retirement) would be may 22nd after 33 years of doing the morning show. with the exception of my time in seattle and my four years in duluth for college, i have listened to him regularly since i was 11 years old. i am a huge nostalgia person, so his farewell week on the radio was right up my alley and i spent countless hours listening in. the week started off with some guests in the studio and one of them happened to be my friend mollie! a good friend of hers has been featured on the show many times as "pastor katherine" (it's not a religious show, but they occasionally talk about religion). mollie is also a pastor and got to be her +1. i actually watched the youtube livestream and it was so fun to see her on there. on thursday morning they had a live broadcast from mall of america where dave brought back all of his old co-hosts from over the years. it was such a fun watch/listen on youtube. and finally, friday was his last show ever and it made me tear up multiple times. it's weird how someone you've never met can feel like such a big part of your life. and that is exactly how i feel about him. i wish him well in his much-deserved retirement.
now onto our week last week...
last monday was cool and rainy. we had our third thunderstorm in a week and i loved it! work, errands, and no evening activities. woo hoo!
tuesday winnie had her second experience at the groomer. it had been over 12 weeks since she had gone, and we thought freshening her up before our trip would be good. we had them cut her hair a bit shorter than last time since she's transitioning from her puppy coat to her adult coat. also on hot days she will probably appreciate having less hair :) she did really well there again and i got a 3-hour puppy break, which felt a lot like dropping my kid off at preschool. haha! i made the most of it, by doing some shopping and getting a salad and iced coffee for lunch at yum! bakery. she looked like a fluffy teddy bear when we got home.
in other winnie news, after months of sleeping in our bed with us, she has decided she prefers to sleep under the bed. although last night she started the night there and jumped up at about 2am.
we love how she peeks her head out. must be less scary that way :)
wednesday morning i ended up taking azalea to the pediatrician to get a prescription for her eczema flare up. poor girl has been so uncomfortable but hopefully it will improve soon. i had my work call on the deck, ran some errands, and we had an HVAC guy out to our house. never a dull moment! in the evening, ashford had zoom piano.
thursday really did feel like maycember! thatcher left in the early morning for a 1-night work trip to cleveland. i spent a good chunk of the day building 4/6 of our patio dining chairs. go me!
in the evening, ashford had a short band concert at his school's 'family day' (carnival). grandma jan met us there. he was scheduled to play at 5:50. thankfully it was only two songs because we had to race out of there for his 6:30 baseball game.
we stopped home so he could change. the game was at the field right by our house, so that was convenient. we had a big cheering section: grandma jan, her friend john, grandma cheryl, grandpa durant, azalea, and winnie :) it wasn't the warmest night and ashford's team lost, but it was still fun.
friday felt much quieter in comparison. i ran some errands, worked, and started thinking about packing. i also finished putting together the last two chairs for our patio set. it's all ready for hanging out - now the weather just needs to get the memo!
these two were looking oh so cute.
the kids and i hung out all evening and i took winnie on a second walk and read my book. thatcher got home from cleveland about 9pm. now we can really focus on seattle!
saturday was a day of errands, cleaning, and some packing. azalea's friend sylvia came over for the afternoon. i took winnie on an evening walk and the golden hour sunlight was so pretty.
i'm going to wrap up this post now since we leave this afternoon, but i have one more story to share. while letting winnie out to go potty this morning, we realized we hadn't seen her in a few minutes. i went outside and discovered that the gate got left open and she was no longer in the yard. cue the panic! she hasn't escaped the yard since she was tiny and could fit through the fence. i ran out to the front sidewalk and right away saw her trotting down the sidewalk towards us, barking. i don't think she went very far and she happily came back to us without a treat or anything. we were amazed. what a good girl.
