last monday we got back in the groove of a normal week...with appointments galore! ok, there were none on monday but plenty the rest of the week. i got to have dinner with my friend sarah m in the evening. she lives a little ways out of the city, so we met up at 'gold nugget tavern' in minnetonka. it was nice to catch up, her daughter is the same age as azalea and we've known each other since they were toddlers. i met her through blogging, but we actually went to the same high school and college a few years apart. azalea had her first staff meeting for her summer day-camp job.
tuesday winnie had another vet appointment. they had to re-draw blood because her clotting test failed the week before. thankfully it was a fluke, and she tested within the normal range this time. the trees are absolutely gorgeous here right now, but it's causing insane allergies for the kids (especially azalea). she takes zyrtec every day, but it only helps so much.
in the evening, ashford had his first baseball practice of the season. he is playing for a rec team at a nearby park and...unkie brandon is coaching! so fun. the first night went pretty well. he knew one kid on the team from school. it's hard not to compare to the little league program in seattle, but hopefully it will be a good experience for him. a lot of kids he knows do club/travel ball at this age, so that may be in our future.
wednesday morning when i set out on an errand i saw actual snowflakes falling from the sky. on may 6th. i couldn't believe it! azalea had a dentist appointment in the middle of the day, so i picked her up from school. she got a glowing report (just like her brother) so i will take that as a parenting win. she was going to miss lunch time at school, so she asked if we could check out 'saturday dumpling co' across the street. i agreed and scored myself some "cool mom" points. ha! it was delicious.
after all that, it was back to school! ashford now has his zoom piano lesson on wednesday nights to accommodate his baseball schedule.
thursday azalea woke up absolutely miserable from her allergies, so we let her stay home for the day. poor girl. i called the pediatric allergist and of course they are scheduling out til july. ashford had a consultation at the orthodontist right at 8am. he is all set to start phase 2 of invisalign in about 4-6 weeks. never ending fun! we had an arborist out to look at our dying birch tree in front of our house and he recommended that we take the whole thing down rather than just taking off the dead parts. so our beautiful tree came down, but it's for the best. we plan to plant a new one in its place eventually.
in the evening ashford had another baseball practice. brandon wasn't able to attend because he had his own baseball league that night. during the practice, i met up with my friend karen and we walked around lake harriet. it was the perfect activity, we got back with 3 minutes to spare. it was nice to catch up with her.
friday azalea was doing a bit better so she went back to school. in the morning i met up with my friend anna m for coffee near her house in st. paul. she showed me the house renovations that they have been working on since the fall, then we went to 'rose street patisserie', my first time. so good. i've been seeing her so much since moving back (after hardly seeing for the past decade) and i love it. in the evening, our whole family went to liz, joe, lux, and max's for dinner. our families get along so well and i just love it.
saturday we had a guy from a roofing company over to talk about a new roof. this project came after some hail damage a few weeks back. we didn't think we'd be doing a new roof this soon, but here we are. thankfully our insurance is willing to pay for it. i took ashford to dick's sporting goods to look for new cleats for baseball (also pants and socks). unfortunately, the options for cleats were super picked over, so we'll need to just order something online. in the evening, thatcher headed out to a concert with a couple friends of his, and the kids and i hung out at home. i finally got some reading in after hardly reading this month so far.
then i spontaneously asked the kids if they wanted to get ice cream at sebastian joe's (of course they did!). so we walked over with winnie. she did pretty well on the patio. she did want to lick/sniff every inch of the ground and table though. we are looking forward to many trips here this summer.
sunday was mother's day! this is another holiday that i always wished i was back in minneapolis for, though my mom happened to be in town for it once or twice while we lived away. we started the day with our usual sunday brunch...but we added whipped cream to make it special. ha!
azalea asked if we could go to the farmer's market in our neighborhood (that just started back up for the season last weekend). yes please! we got drinks and walked around and enjoyed the sunshine.
in the afternoon, my mom picked up azalea and me, then cheryl to go see 'the devil wears prada 2' at the riverview theater. it's such a fun retro place. the movie was really good too. sequels can be hit or miss, but it felt like this one was so well done. can't believe it's been 20 years since the original came out. brandon took ashford to a batting cage in the afternoon and then they met us for dinner at 'buster's on 28th'. a great little hidden gem we've been to before. i had a burger and a hazy IPA and we had a great time. it felt so special to get to do something like that with my kids, my mom, and my mother in law.
we ended the night back at our house with thatcher and durant for dessert. thatcher made a boston cream pie, which was delicious. i was sooooo full, but so worth it.
we will hopefully be going next weekend to pick out our patio dining set and i can't wait!
it's going to be another busy week here with a school event for ashford, baseball, appointments, etc.
