last monday we went for a consultation at a new orthodontist for azalea. it was at the top of our list for providers to nail down once we got here. our orthodontist in seattle referred us to a practice in edina. i had to pick up azalea a little early from school. we liked the new place and she will continue her invisalign treatment there for another year or so. after dinner, the kids asked if we could go to 'sebastian joe's' for ice cream since we hadn't been since buying our new house, so we agreed. it was a warm night after a week of 'fake fall' in minneapolis.
tuesday morning i had coffee with my friend carolina who i see every summer when i'm home, but i'm looking forward to seeing more regularly. we met when azalea and her daughter naomi were babies. she saw the house and then we went to 'turtle bread' in my neighborhood. ashford had piano on zoom in the evening and thatcher prepped the dining room for painting and primed the walls.
wednesday thatcher continued painting the dining room (ceiling and edges). in the evening, my mom picked me up (along with two of her friends) to go to see the 'belfast cowboys' at hyland ski hill in bloomington. it was my fourth (?) time seeing them and it's always so fun.

i ran into my friend becky's mom susan and got to hang out with her for a while, which was so nice.
out late on a school night, but it was worth it! :)
thursday i joined a new gym in my neighborhood. i'm very ready to be back into a workout routine after not having capacity for it a lot of the summer. i did some work and then headed to st. paul to meet my boss chris for lunch and to talk about what my job will look like living here. no major changes since everyone works remotely but i may occasionally go into the office to deposit checks and join some zoom calls now that i'm in the same time zone. thatcher made more progress on the dining room.
in the evening, ashford and i went to see my brother play baseball in robbinsdale for his fall league. we left before the game ended because they go late, but it was really fun and a beautiful night.
friday i tried to stay home for most of the day to get stuff done and relax a little. i love having unstructured time at home and i feel like i've been running around doing fun stuff (and necessary stuff!) every day and i needed a chill day. i can't believe we're already wrapping up the second week of school. the kids continue to impress me with their (mostly) good attitudes about it. i took some 'progress' pictures of the living room. we still need a tv stand and stuff on the walls, but i'm loving how it's all coming together.
thatcher's friend beth stopped over in the afternoon. azalea attended a theater meeting at school; she's interested in doing stage crew and i'm excited for her. we relaxed at home friday night. we watched some shows and azalea and i made brownies to take to kelli's house on saturday.
saturday morning azalea had a haircut with my childhood friend caylia. she used to cut my hair when we lived here before. she did a beautiful job on azalea's.
then we picked up ashford and headed to my friend kelli's to hang out with her, addie, and clare. being able to see them whenever we want makes me so happy. we had lunch and hung out in their yard. minneapolis is not ready to let go of summer weather yet. the rest of the day, we did stuff around the house. thatcher finished the dining room, and the transformation was amazing. it now matches the green in the kitchen tile, which was our goal. we still need a rug and a couple other furniture pieces for along the walls, but i'm so happy with it.
sunday morning we made pancakes, eggs, and sausage. azalea and i walked over to the farmer's market in our neighborhood.
my mom came over in the evening for dinner and we grilled burgers. it was a hot september day (almost 90). it feels weird when the trees are starting to change colors. we definitely aren't in seattle anymore!
