june influenza, 8th grade camp, 13 the musical

june is june-ing and my brain is going a million miles a minute these days. 

 last monday i called the pediatrician because ashford was in tears over how badly his throat hurt :( thankfully they could get us in quickly. they tested him for strep and the flu...and the flu it was! poor guy. it seems so late in the season! since he had been having symptoms for over 48 hours, it was too late to give him tamiflu, so we just stuck with tylenol. he rested a lot, in between coughing fits. thankfully the rest of us felt healthy. in the evening, azalea went to her second "counselor in training" staff meeting for summer.

tuesday morning azalea was off to 8th grade camp on orcas island. i love that her middle school does camp trips for all three years. thatcher took the day off to drive a carful of kids to the ferry in anacortes (1.5 hours away). ashford and i hung out all day. i took a trip to the grocery store and to get thank you gifts for the baseball coaches, but that was it. i got popcicles for him and me and we ate them on the deck. 

we also ordered thai for dinner to help our morale :) 

wednesday ashford stayed home again. we felt like he needed one more day to really kick this illness. he was mostly feeling better and wished he was at school. his end of season baseball team party was scheduled for that night (i was actually the one who planned it). thankfully he was feeling well enough to go and was 24+ hours past having a fever. we had it at 'ballard smoke shop' (which i always have to clarify - that's a restaurant - ha). only about half the team was able to make it, but it was a fun time. his team wasn't as cohesive as what we experienced last year, but that's ok. 

thursday ashford was able to go back to school - wahoo! in the morning, kay and i met with the PTA president to go over the graduation program items. it was also our 10 year anniversary of moving to seattle. i haven't had the capacity to reflect on that, but i want to. 

friday azalea returned from camp. we missed her! and she managed to stay healthy, so that was huge. sisi's mom and i picked them up from the school. it was a long process getting all of the bags unloaded, etc. azalea relaxed for the rest of the evening and i dropped off ashford and some buddies at the park to watch the two different championship games happening (AAA and majors). it was a beautiful night. we've been having such a nice stretch of weather lately, which isn't always the case in june. 

saturday morning both kids slept in til 10! whoa. we didn't really have anything planned until the evening. we ran some errands and relaxed at home. in the evening, ashford and i joined a bunch of his friends and their moms to see their friend sebastian as the lead in "13: the musical". we got dinner before the show. sebastian did an amazing job. and i'm obsessed with this picture rebekah took of the boys sitting in the front row watching him.

sunday morning we made biscuits and eggs and hung out a home. in the afternoon, we had ewan over for a few hours so vanessa and matt could get some things done for their move back to canada in a couple of weeks. it was a hot day! it reached 90 in southern seattle, but only 82 by us. but it felt hot! in the evening, i met up with my friend steph for happy hour at 'stoneburner'. it was really nice to catch up with her. 

the kids are down to their last week and a half of school. my mom comes in town this weekend. so much fun stuff going on!!
