islandwood camp + comic con

 last monday was a day we had been anticipating for a long time. 5th grade islandwood camp day! azalea did not get to do this camp when she was in 5th grade due to covid (she later got to do camps with her middle school, thankfully). so, it was our first time. it's a 3-night program and all of the 5th graders go with their teachers and a few parent chaperones. bless those parents! i dropped ashford off with all of his gear at normal school time. he was both nervous and excited. then off he went! 

this meant no piano, basketball, or baseball last week. whew! some 5th grade mom friends and i met up for happy hour that evening at ray's, which was fun. 

tuesday and wednesday were pretty quiet at our house. we missed ashford and it felt weird only having one kid at home, but i can't say i missed the bickering :) we found out that one of ashford's friends had to leave camp because he came down with a stomach virus and we crossed our fingers that it didn't spread to other kids (it didn't). i had a doctor's appointment and a baseball parent meeting in there. 

thursday ashford got back to the school about 1:45. i was so happy to see him. i tried not to ask him a million questions since he'd have to repeat it all to azalea and thatcher later, but he told me it was really fun, the food was good, but sleeping was a bit chaotic. these will be lifelong memories for him, i'm sure. in the evening, i took azalea to an info meeting at boys and girls club about being a 'counselor in training' volunteer this summer. 

friday night we had no plans. we made dinner and watched a movie. 

saturday morning everyone slept in. ashford had a basketball game in the late morning. they pummeled the other team. they also took a team picture because it might be the last game where everyone is there. 

azalea headed out for a fun outing with her friends (and simone's dad) to comic con at the convention center. she's never been to one before, but she loved it. they dressed up as characters from the video game 'animal crossing.' she was gone all day.

ashford had raleigh over in the late afternoon and then thatcher and i took the boys to 'mod pizza' for dinner. we hung out with azalea when she got home. 

sunday was daylight saving time. we all slept later than normal :) we had biscuits and eggs for breakfast and then azalea headed off to day 2 of comic con (with a different friend and their family this time). ashford got together with a group of his friends and they bopped around to each house. i ran errands, read, watched a show, thatcher went for a walk. it was a pretty chill sunday. unfortunately it didn't even feel like it was lighter out later because it was a dark and rainy day.
