snow days, weekend sports, super bowl

last tuesday ashford had piano. he's been learning how to play 'fur elise'. 

on wednesday, i got a call from the school district at 4:45am declaring a "remote school day" due to the snow. i was shocked because there hadn't been any snow sticking the past few days. but sure enough when i looked out the window, there was a dusting. it doesn't take much to get a delayed start or a snow day in seattle, but i'm sure other areas of the city got more snow than we did. i let the kids sleep in and they woke up very confused, but happy. even though it wasn't really enough to play in they still got on their gear and went out :) 

they both had to log on to 'teams' calls in the late morning with their classes, but they did not have their school laptops because their teachers did not think they would need them at home. it felt a lot like the covid days. how on earth did we do that for over a year? the snow melted by the afternoon, but more was on the way. ashford's basketball practice was also cancelled. thatcher got home from atlanta in the late afternoon.

thursday morning i got another 4:30am call from the district declaring a second remote learning day. we only had a dusting again. :) this was not how i thought i would be spending the week, but what can you do? it was a good excuse to slow down after a busy weekend with guests in town. azalea was supposed to have an info night at the high school, but it had to be rescheduled. thatcher had an event after work, and the kids and i were going stir crazy, so i took them to 'five guys' for dinner. 

friday i held my breath to see if there would be normal school and there was! it was nice to end the week with a catch-up day for me. in the evening, ashford got invited out for dinner with a group of his buddies and one of their moms.  

the rest of us had dinner at home and we watched a couple episodes of a new season of 'alone' when he got back. 

saturday morning ashford had a basketball game - which resulted in their first loss. in the afternoon he had another indoor baseball clinic. azalea and i went to the library and venture coffee :) we made pizza for dinner, and we all watched 'groundhogs day' circa 1993. 

sunday morning we had waffles and bacon for breakfast. then i took azalea to lynnwood to do a little clothes shopping. we both found a couple things to bring to florida. in the afternoon, i went to the grocery store and we watched the super bowl (it's on at 3:30 here!). i'm not a football fan by any means, but i love watching the super bowl every year. we made kofte baharat meatballs for dinner. 

this is the kids last week of school before the mid-winter break. counting down the days!
