unkie brandon's visit, high school preview, pumpkin patch

the first half of last week, the kids and i held down the fort while thatcher was away. i watched a lot of 'fall themed' netflix original movies in the evenings ;)

tuesday night azalea had soccer practice.

wednesday morning i met vanessa for a walk in discovery park near her house. i hadn't been there in at least a year or two. it's such a gorgeous place that does not feel like you are in the city.

after early dismissal from school, ashford had his buddies fritz and starryn over for the afternoon. thatcher got home from philly late wednesday evening. we missed him!

thursday morning i got to chaperone azalea's middle school field trip to the high school to see a production of 'charlotte's web.' i was happy to chaperone and get to see a play, but i mostly wanted an excuse to go to the high school. ha! it's where azalea will go next year, and we had never been inside before. the play was great, and the chaperoning was super easy. the school seems really nice as well.

in the evening, the kids and thatcher headed to the fall festival at ashford's school and i drove to the airport to pick up my brother! we are a legit hotel this month with all of our visitors :) he and i stopped by fall fest for the last half hour and then we all relaxed at home the rest of the night.

friday morning the kids and thatcher were off to work and school. my brother and i went to the gym. we went to 'lockspot cafe' for lunch, which was delicious as always. after lunch, we walked to the locks to see if there were any sea lions or salmon, but didn't see either. oh well. we hung out at home in the afternoon. ashford had sports club after school and then came home for two hours before heading back to school for 'parents night out.' we watched some of game 1 of the world series, then brandon, azalea, and i drove to seattle center to see a ballard high football game. it was our first time attending and it was awesome. my brother and i both felt simultaneously old and also like we should still be in high school ;) we also got to see some friends from soccer/baseball who have older siblings in the marching band.  the game had a late start and when we left at 10pm, it was only halftime. but we really enjoyed it and i'm looking forward to going to more in the coming years.

saturday morning we had pancakes and bacon for breakfast. it was rainy, but azalea had been asking to go to a pumpkin patch all month and we were running out of time. ashford did not wanna go, so thatcher stayed home with him. we drove almost an hour to 'bailey farm' in snohomish. it's been our go-to pumpkin patch since we moved here. the kids are too big for a lot of the activities now, but azalea loved getting treats from the concession stand and picking a pumpkin off the vine in the field. it was very wet and cold, and we only stayed 30 minutes :)

we hung out at home for the afternoon and then watched some of game 2 of the world series. after dinner, my brother and i headed downtown to see a concert at 'the paramount.' the band was 'nothing but thieves' and they are a favorite of my brother's. they did not have a minneapolis date on their tour, so he bought 2 tickets for seattle and i got to go with him. it was such a treat because we don't get to do stuff together (just the two of us) very often. the show was extremely loud, but really fun!

sunday morning thatcher left early for a 2-night trip to vancouver for work (yes, another work trip already). the rest of us slept in, which was nice. in the morning, ashford and i went to the grocery store to get him a pumpkin. my stubborn child :) after lunch we dropped off ashford at his friend fritz's and then brandon and i took azalea to her soccer game in ballard. the first half of the game was dry, but the second half it poured, and we all got completely soaked. they lost their game 2-6, which was a bummer.

we all had to change our clothes when we got home. then it was time for pumpkin carving and seed roasting. yum.

it was too rainy to light the jack-o-lanterns, so that will have to wait. for dinner we decided to check out a new (to us) place that ashford has been asking to go to because his friends talk about it. 'wing dome' in greenwood. typical sports bar. i got the hugest chicken sandwich of my life.

this morning my brother was out the door at 5:20 am in his uber to the aiport. we miss him, but we'll see him in february in florida when we all go visit my mom. can't believe halloween is 3 days away! hoping it isn't rainy this year.
