thatcher's birthday, silver lake cabin, father's day

last monday was a productive, get-stuff-done day. we got new tires put on our subaru, so we are officially road trip ready now. in the evening, i attended the last PTA meeting of the year at ashford's school.

tuesday morning i chaperoned ashford's class field trip to arlo's house for his mom to do a 3D printing art project with the kids. rebekah works for a local company that makes 3D printers. she went to their class on monday to have the kids draw their design and then tuesday was printing day from her garage office. when the kids were waiting for their piece to print, they got to run around the yard and play. it was really fun.

wednesday was thatcher's 42nd birthday! he took the day off to go up to the property again (surprise, surprise) :) in the evening, we all went to 'uneeda burger' for dinner and then came back home for oreo brownie cake and presents.

sisi's family donated these balloons that were from sisi's birthday a couple weeks ago :)

thursday evening i met up with my friend steph who used to be on the co-working board with me years ago. we had drinks (and delicious cheeeese) at baker's cocktail bar.

friday thatcher took the day off again, so we could get ready to go to the cabin near our property for the weekend. we were excited to go again after we went last june for the first time - except for the fact that the forecast was rainy and cool - just like last year. we spent the morning grocery shopping and packing. we also found out that azalea got chosen to be a 'w.e.b. leader' next year. it's a mentor group for incoming 6th graders. we are so excited for and proud of her. after lunch, i headed to ashford's school to volunteer for field day. it felt smaller this year than past years, but it was still fun.

then i signed ashford out of school a little bit early and we went to pick up azalea from school an hour early and then we hit the road. the idea was to beat the traffic, but on a friday afternoon in june in seattle if you don't leave town before noon, you are pretty much screwed. we sat in heavy traffic on I5 for a lot of the drive. we finally got to silver lake at dinner time. we made pasta for dinner and set up the cabin.

then we took a walk down to the lake since it stopped raining. the lighting was so pretty for pictures.

we went back and played a new game that azalea got recently, but i ditched out of it pretty quickly to read instead ;)

saturday morning we woke up to chilly but dry weather. we made pancakes, bacon, and eggs and then decided to cross into canada for the day. the cabin is only a 10 minute drive from the border. there was no wait to get in. the town on the other side is abbotsford. it started to pour when we got there. we ran from the car to a bakery to get some treats.

it was hard to pick because everything looked so good!

then we drove 30 minutes north to do a short hike to steelhead falls. thankfully it stayed dry for that.

we got some lunch at a joint fast-casual spot. good taco and noodle box. everyone was happy! then we surprised the kids with a trip to 'castle fun park' to do under-water themed mini golf. the picture does not do it justice, it was super cool and creative!

there was a 30 minute wait to cross the border back into the US. not too bad. we stopped at our property on the way back for a little bit.

we made chicken curry for dinner and hung out at the cabin for the rest of the night.

we did take a short walk down to the lake to see our goose friend we named derek :)

sunday was father's day! we made breakfast, packed up, and cleaned the cabin. we stopped for lunch at mcdonald's on the way home and it was a much quicker drive this time. we didn't really do anything celebratory the rest of the day. i had ordered thatcher a piece of art that he really likes, but it isn't coming until after our minnesota trip.

it's now the last week of school for the kids (4 days actually - no school wednesday for juneteenth). and we're under 2 weeks from leaving on our road trip. so much fun to come!
