first week of summer

we made it through our first week of summer vacation. it's always an adjustment having the kids home every day. lots of fighting, less time for me to do things i'm used to like grocery shopping, working, or going to the gym, but i do not miss having to get up early or making lunches. and soon we'll be in a totally different routine once again when our trip starts.

last monday morning i took the kids to northgate to get new shoes for ashford at dick's and to browse target. it was a good way to kill the morning. in the afternoon, ashford went to arlo's for a few hours and i took azalea to get her first hair cut in almost 2 years. she's been wanting to donate her hair, but it seems to have stopped growing and they need to cut 12 inches and she didn't want her hair to be super short...soooo we just opted for a regular haircut, and it turned out really cute.

after that, we went to a vietnamese coffee shop down the street called 'coffeeholic' that azalea had been to with friends. it was my first time. i got an iced coffee drink with ube and cheese.  i didn't know what to expect, but it was so good.

the kids hung out with sisi and thelonious outside in the evening and then azalea went to sisi's for an impromptu sleepover at 9pm. smells like summer!

tuesday morning azalea was at sisi's and ashford woke up early so we decided to watch the first 'inside out' before seeing the second one at the theater that day. in the afternoon, azalea's friend bridget joined us to go to the theater in ballard, as did vanessa and ewan. 'inside out 2' was really cute, we all enjoyed it! and our theater is only $6 on tuesdays. score! in the evening i went to the gym (gotta fit it in when i can) and the grocery store.

wednesday morning the kids slept in, and we just hung out at home all day. it was a bit of a rough morning, to be honest. in the afternoon, fritz and arlo came over to hang out with ashford. azalea spent some time with sisi. towards the end of the boys' play date, kay and rebekah came over for wine and snacks with me. it was nice to catch up with them before we leave town.

thursday was a no-plans day until the evening. i told the kids we could go out for lunch and to the grocery store to pick out some road trip snacks. we went to 'barking dog alehouse' which i went to last month when my mom was in town, but the kids hadn't been there since they were little. it's a great little spot. i got a fun package in the mail in the afternoon, an early 40th birthday gift from my aunt lea in new jersey.

in the evening, both kids headed to sleepovers because thatcher and i had tickets to see 'hollow coves' at the crocodile. i bought the tickets back in november as a christmas gift for thatcher. i drove downtown and met him at work. we grabbed some vietnamese food nearby and ate it at his office building (the views are so pretty). the concert venue was in belltown. it was a standing-room only concert, which is not my favorite anymore, but does allow you to be really close to the stage if you get there early enough. the opener was a woman named billieanne and she was great.

it was fun to see 'hollow coves' perform live, they are really great musicians.

friday morning i woke up to an empty house because thatcher left early to go to the property. it felt strange! i did some work and then picked up ashford in the late morning. in the afternoon, vanessa and ewan picked us up to go to golden gardens beach. it was a beautiful day for it!

in the evening, i had plans to meet up with my friend beth for a little early birthday celebration since my party got postponed and she is going to be out of town for a lot of august. we went to 'ocho' for tapas and a drink.

then we walked over to 'sabine' for another drink and dessert. it was such a fun evening.

saturday was our final day in seattle before our trip. it was filled with all sorts of errands, a haircut for ashford, cleaning the car, and packing. whew!

minneapolis, here we come!
