salmon release field trip + AJR concert

last monday evening ashford had a baseball game. they played the final team in their league that they hadn't played yet. there are five teams total. they also have some games with teams from outside their league. they won this game 11-1, which was awesome.

tuesday ashford asked if i could take him and fritz to watch their friend trent's baseball game that evening. trent plays for a higher division. of course i said yes because we don't have enough baseball to attend lately ;) it was a beautiful night and i hung out with trent's mom while the boys ran around and sort of watched the game.

wednesday morning i got to chaperone ashford's 4th grade field trip to carkeek park for a salmon release. they raised salmon in a tank at school and then release them into the wild we also completed a scavenger hunt with salmon trivia. i learned this is a classic field trip that all 4th graders do here, but azalea's year missed out due to covid. it was pretty cool. my assigned group was all of ashford's buddies, so they had a great time.

that evening ashford went to karate with rebekah and arlo. the boys got their gold stripe, which is the last stripe before their next belt test in may.

thursday after school the kids and i went down to ballard ave so ashford could get a haircut and they talked me into a trip to 'sweet mickey's' candy store.

friday was a big day! back at christmas time i got 2 tickets for azalea and me to the AJR concert here in seattle. AJR has been her favorite band for the last few years, so she was very excited. i love concerts and their music is really fun and upbeat, so i was looking forward to it as well. we went out for an early dinner at 'coba' vietnamese. it was our first time there and it was really good!

then we headed to climate pledge arena to wait in line. it's been a long time since i've been to a big arena concert. the nice part is having assigned seats. i let her get a merch t-shirt as part of her birthday gift. the lines for merch were loooooong.

the opening act was dean lewis who is a singer from australia. i knew a couple of his songs from the radio and he was a great performer. i would love to see him again some day.

ajr put on such an amazing show. the video/special effects were super impressive and they are very talented and funny guys (brothers) who also share a heartfelt message of staying true to yourself to their fans. i loved every minute of it. and watching azalea take it all in was the icing on the cake.

it was a night we will always remember and i'm so thankful for it.

saturday morning thatcher left early to volunteer at the opening of the new light rail station(s) in bellevue. the kids and i lounged around and then i took them to the library and 'big 5' sporting goods store to get a baseball backpack for ashford. for years he has just used a re-useable grocery bag to carry his gear. all the kids on his team have a baseball backpack and he seems to be really enjoying baseball these days, so i thought we should get him one. in the afternoon ashford hung out with arlo for a while and azalea headed out to go 'bouldering' (like rock climbing) with sisi for her brother's belated birthday party. ashford had a game in ravenna in the late afternoon. it was chilly and windy. i'm ready for warmer weather again please! they ended up losing 6-12, but ashford had a really good game. he got two hits (which unfortunately got him out at first both times) but most exciting - he caught a ball that was hit to center field! it was so good for his self-esteem :) thatcher met us at the end of the game, after his event ended. when we got home, we made frozen pizza and watched 'alone'. we were all pooped at the end of the day.

sunday morning thatcher left early again - this time to go up to our property. it's been hard for the rest of us to get up there this spring with all the games we have on weekends. oh well. we will for sure be going in june. the kids slept in past 9am, woo hoo! we hung out at home for the morning and then i took them to 'little woody's' for burgers and shakes for lunch. yum. we lounged around the house for the afternoon until it was time to go to azalea's soccer game at ballard high. it was her first time playing on the high school field, so that was fun. it was cold and windy again at the game. and they lost 1-5, their first loss this spring. thatcher got home after dinner and we all hung out the rest of the night.

this week = more baseball games plus my brother is coming into town on friday, so we are very excited for that.
