pumpkin carving, halloween 2023, kids + mom weekend

happy november! halloween feels like it was a month ago now, but of course it wasn't. :)

last monday was our last chance for pumpkin carving, so ashford and i made sure to do his when he got home from school that day (azalea did hers with friends over the weekend). it was a fun little activity to do, just the two of us. i roasted the seeds too because i love them!

in the evening, we brought both kids' jack o lanterns outside to test them out. ashford decided that 'just eyes' was the spooky look he wanted this year. :)

tuesday was halloween! ashford's school does not do halloween celebrations, but he got to go on a field trip to a corn maze with all of 4th grade, so that was fun. azalea's school does celebrate halloween with a middle school 'block party' the last hour of the day. costumes, treats, and games. she had a blast. we ate an early dinner and then got into our costumes. i love how their faces turned out. the gashes are temporary tattoos i found at target and they were awesome! ashford does not really enjoy dressing up (but he loves trick or treating), so we went the minimalist route with him :)

neither of my kids have ever seen grease so they didn't really understand my costume, but i thought it was fun!

ashford and i headed to fritz's house to join a big group of 4th grade boys and their parents for trick or treating. it was so much fun! we wandered the neighborhood for two hours before the kids burned out. there were so many awesomely decorate houses.

azalea went trick or treating with simone, another friend sirena, and sirena's mom. they had a great time too.

one of my favorite parts of halloween night is when everyone is back in the warm house, sorting their candy.

on wednesday i took down all of our halloween decorations while listening to christmas music. yes, seriously :) i always intend to ease into the holiday season, so i'm not 'over it' by mid december, but it's hard for me to do :) i took ashford and arlo to karate on wednesday night.

ashford had karate again thursday night. friday evening we had no plans. we made homemade pizza for dinner and watched a movie, and thatcher got ready for his work trip.

saturday morning i took thatcher to the airport for his flight to phoenix. it was a super rainy morning and when i got back home, there was thunder, lightning, and a huge downpour that caused some flooding in ballard and near downtown. i'm really glad i got home before that! we hung out at home for most of the day. ashford's friend trent came over in the afternoon. the trees are so pretty in seattle right now. i always forget they peak in late october/early november.

in the evening i took the kids to chipotle for dinner. then we came home and watched some shows and tried to stay up an hour later than normal in anticipation of the time change, but we were all so tired for some reason. ha!

sunday was daylight savings. thankfully my kids are at an age where it doesn't mess up their sleep too much. we lounged around the house for the morning. i also took the kids to the library and starbucks for our first holiday drinks of the season. yum! azalea had a soccer game in the afternoon. we dropped off ashford at arlo's house before heading to shoreline. her team is ranked #2 in their division and they were going against the #1 ranked team...and they beat them 3-2. it was such an exciting game! after the game, i dropped off azalea at her friend penny's house for a couple hours. i hadn't planned anything for dinner, so i told ashford i would take him to mcdonalds and he was a very happy camper. i really need to get back to cooking this week :) it was so bewildering to have it dark out before 5pm last night. i'm never prepared!

we have friends coming in town from minnesota on thursday and we are so excited for that! we can't wait to introduce liz and max to our life in seattle for the first time.
