day camp week, belated birthday drinks, seafood fest

last week felt much different than our first week of summer. both kids were in day camps. ashford's was at his school. a few of his friends were there with him and they got to do games, art projects, and and science experiments with some of the teachers. he had fun :) azalea's was at the boys and girls club and she only knew one other kid in her camp (an acquaintance from school), but she still had a great week. she got to do a scavenger hunt in ballard, went to pike place market, mopop museum, and a park in south seattle.

i had five hours to myself each day. i worked, went to the gym, ran errands, had lunch with my friends joe and alice, went to the dermatologist, and met with the PTA president from ashford's school to go over my new volunteer role as website administrator. whew! one afternoon i made myself a watermelon feta salad and it was so good (and pretty!)

ashford went to karate on monday and wednesday night. his name is officially up on the wall now :)

on thursday evening i met my friends vanessa, kay, rebekah, and beth for belated birthday drinks at a new (to us) place in our neighborhood called 'outpouring'. it's a beer and wine bottle shop with a tap room as well. it was really fun! i saw some one with a foofy pink drink and asked the bartender what it was. he said frose! that was my guess. so i had to order one. yum!

friday night we grilled hot dogs/brats and corn on the cob for dinner. we watched a movie with the kids. i slept poorly the night before so i slept through most of the movie ;)  oops.

saturday morning we made pancakes and bacon for breakfast and then ashford and i went to meet some friends at 'seafood fest'. it's a huge weekend long festival that draws thousands of people to our neighborhood. there's food vendors, live music, and some kids activities. we got there right when it started to avoid the crowds. ashford, fritz, and wyatt wanted burgers from 'lil woodys' for lunch. then they went on the giant slide twice. finally we got them overpriced cotton candy made into super cute characters! it was a good day to be a kid.

we relaxed at home the rest of the day. we grilled dinner again and watched an episode of 'alone' with the kids.

sunday morning thatcher headed to our property to water (yes, he has to go a lot. hopefully not as much come fall). the kids and i stayed home with no plans and no car :) i went to the gym in the morning while they watched tv. and then we all walked to 'venture coffee' for a treat. ashford played on the school play ground with friends for a while. we hung out at home all afternoon. they were bored and so was i. it was not pretty at times, lots of fighting. thankfully azalea was able to see simone for a little bit. we ate a hodge podge dinner and then azalea and i went upstairs to watch 'clueless' together while the boys played video games.

this week is a no-camp week. in fact, they don't have any camps until after our minneapolis trip. 10 days to go!
