middle school dance, easter, spring break begins

last tuesday night was another baseball practice for ashford. on wednesday after early dismissal we didn't have any plans, so i offered to take the kids to 'salt and straw' in our neighborhood for ice cream, of course they were all about that :)

for the last couple weeks we had been hearing about a middle school dance coming up at azalea's school. it was scheduled for the last hour and 15 minutes of the school day on the friday before spring break. because it wasn't an evening event, i wasn't sure if kids were dressing up or not...until a few days before when azalea was asking if she could get a new dress to wear. we went out looking for one together but didn't find anything. i grabbed a couple dress and shoe options during the week while i was running other errands in hopes that something would work, and it all came together perfectly! i can't believe she's old enough for this already, but i'm so excited for her.

she came home bubbling over with happiness after the dance. she said it was SO FUN and SO LOUD :) she also reported that they didn't play any slow songs. haha! friday evening ashford had practice again and azalea went with sisi's family to school to see the theater production that sisi was a part of. then she went back to their house for a sleepover. thatcher, ashford, and i hung out together for the rest of the night.

saturday morning thatcher headed up to our property to get a few things done. we are getting ready to add a driveway, septic, and a well, but it's a slow process.

ashford and i lounged around all morning. in the afternoon i took the kids to see the new 'mario & luigi' movie at the theater in our neighborhood with sisi, thelonious, and their dad. there were also about a dozen other people we knew from school at the same showing, so that was fun. the movie was really funny and cute. we all enjoyed it. azalea and sisi peeled off to do a little shopping in ballard after and ashford had a playdate with arlo at our house. after arlo left and thatcher got home, we ordered vietnamese from 'crackle mi' for dinner and sisi stayed to eat with us. the kids hung out and watched netflix until sisi's dad picked her up later in the evening.

sunday was easter! it ended up being very rainy and if i'm being totally honest, kind of a downer of a day. i'm not sure i'll ever get used to not having extended family holiday celebrations for most holidays anymore. azalea slept in sunday morning because she was tired from her sleepover friday night, so ashford was a bit grumpy that it delayed doing their baskets/egg hunt. they requested that the bunny hide their baskets this year, so he did. but then they struggled to find them and got frustrated. there was also some disappointment about what was in their baskets which led to tears from me and conversations about gratitude and downside of comparing with their friends who apparently get more lavish baskets. ah, the not so glamorous side of holidays and momming. but it is what it is.

thatcher made us french toast and bacon for brunch, which was a bright spot. i took a nap, we did some cleaning for our guests arriving tuesday. by 4pm we were feeling a little stir crazy so we decided to go to carkeek park. we hadn't been there in forever. it was windy and rainy, but still felt good to get out. and i got a nice picture of all of us to commemorate one of my least favorite easters ever. haha!

we came home and had bbq chicken sandwiches, mac n cheese, and cornbread for dinner. it was delish. then we watched 'mockingjay-part 2'.

now it's monday of spring break and grandma cheryl and grandpa durant arrive tomorrow!
