grandma and grandpa's spring break visit

durant and cheryl arrived in the late afternoon last tuesday. we hadn't seen them since last summer, so it was nice to be together again. i made tacos for dinner and we hung out at our house for the evening.

wednesday morning we took a walk down to mighty os' with the kids for donuts.

in the afternoon we went to the school playground and played a little basketball (grandpa even joined in) and then hung out at home on the deck. the cherry tree behind our townhouse was almost at peak bloom.

we picked up 'scoooters' for dinner. in the evening i went on a walk around the neighborhood with thatcher and cheryl.

thursday morning cheryl, durant, the kids and i went on a walk to the library and ballard commons park. in the afternoon cheryl and i took a trip to to 'ross' while the kids played their video games and then there was more basketball at school.

thatcher also took his parents to see the most amazing block of cherry blossoms in our neighborhood.

i made spaghetti for dinner and we relaxed at home the rest of the night.

on friday, thatcher and i left in the late morning to drive up to bellingham and our property in sumas. cheryl and durant and the kids stayed back to hang out together for the day. it was really nice to have a whole day of one on one time with thatcher. it doesn't happen very often. and it was beautiful weather! while in bellingham we got lunch at 'old town cafe' followed by coffee at 'camber'. two of our favorites. we also picked up donuts to bring home from a new place called 'jojoe's donuts'. yum!

then we drove over to our property (35 mins away). i hadn't been there since we bought it last september. i also got to meet our neighbors (and their dogs) who bought the farmhouse next door. thatcher and i did a little work (cutting back blackberry bushes and picking up branches/sticks that have fallen from a tree). it was productive and fun. :) i still can't believe we own land!

our builder has staked out where the house/cabin will sit eventually. we are still probably a year out from breaking ground, though. right now we are focusing on a driveway, septic, and a well.

we made our way back to seattle to meet up with every one at ashford's baseball practice at gilman park. it was just ending, so we all went to 'mod pizza' for dinner.

saturday morning we hung out at the house and after lunch, durant, cheryl, azalea, ashford, and i drove to belltown and parked near the olympic sculpture park. we walked through the park and along the water all the way to pike place market downtown.

we made chicken gyros for dinner and relaxed at home the rest of the night.

sunday morning thatcher made us waffles and eggs for breakfast. then durant, cheryl, and i went to watch azalea's soccer game in NE seattle. it was very rainy and windy. thankfully another parent set up a canopy for every one to watch under. but that didn't help the girls on the field. ;) azalea played goalie the first half and was soaked by the end of the game. but they won 4-3 so it was exciting!

we hung out at home for the afternoon. ashford went over to arlo's house for a play date and azalea hung out with sisi for a while. thatcher made a boston cream pie for dessert.

monday the kids were back in school! i went to the gym and did some work in the morning while cheryl and durant went to the locks. after lunch, cheryl and i took a trip to goodwill. it was a cool, rainy day. we hung out with the kids after school and made BLTs for dinner.

now they are headed back to minneapolis and we are back to our regular routines around here. looking forward to seeing them again in july when we go to minnesota for our summer visit.
