soccer tournament, holiday decor + baking, a little snow

last monday i hopped on the light rail after arriving at the airport because azalea had her first game of the city-wide soccer tournament that evening. it was a chilly 35 degrees at the game. we bundled up and managed to (mostly) stayed warm. you probably remember that azalea's team didn't win a single game this season. that was partly because they were in the highest ranked bracket of teams. for the tournament her coach moved them down a bracket. they were very evenly matched with the other team. the game ended in a 2-2 tie, which meant they had to do a penalty kick shoot out to determine a winner. each team took over 11 kicks. it was a nail biter, but azalea's team won! i was so excited for the girls. it was such a fun experience. 

our christmas decorating is complete (i think...). for the rest of the month i'll be torn between going out and doing christmasy things and spending as much time as i can in the living room enjoying the twinkle lights and cozy atmosphere. most afternoons you can find me with a christmas movie on in the background while i get stuff done around the house. i live for this season :) on tuesday the meteorologists were really hyping up the forecast that snow was on the way. it ended up being pretty anti-climatic in our part of the city. we got a little dusting that melted not long after. i hope we get some real snow at some point this winter.

 

 

on wednesday i got a wreath from top banana. it's my favorite place to get one. i added silver sparkly picks.

 

that night azalea had her second game of the tournament down in south seattle. ashford went to a friend's house for the evening and thatcher met us there from work. it started snowing really hard after we arrived. it was so fun. we did our best to keep warm during the game. unfortunately the girls lost 1-3, but they still have at least one more game for the tournament. 

friday the kids both had friends over after school, so we took our weekly trip to 7-ll for snacks/treats. after they all left, we made pizza for dinner and watched 'home alone' for a movie night. 

we had no plans going into the weekend, which was nice because the rest of the month is going to be busy. saturday morning azalea and i took a trip to the library and finally got her her very own card. she wasn't feeling great, so we spent the rest of the day at home. lots of reading, video games, a christmas movie for me while i worked on our holiday cards. thatcher and the kids made our first batch of christmas cookies - italian wedding cookies. a favorite in our house. 

 

for dinner we made chicken gyros and watched "the giver." i read the book in elementary school and just re-read it. thatcher saw the movie first and then read the book. both are really good!

sunday was another loungy day. we all slept in til after 8am (a big deal - ha). we made biscuits and eggs for breakfast. azalea was still feeling congested. we read, the kids played video games, i watched another christmas movie. pretty much a repeat day of saturday and that is okay in my book. 

i kept azalea home from school today because she is still coughing. hopefully she can go tomorrow.
