i never imagined i would still be talking about soccer the week before christmas, but here we are :) azalea's team had their final game last monday night in shoreline. they had a re-match against the team they beat with the penalty kick shoot out a few weeks ago. unfortunately they lost to them this time, so they are out of the tournament now, but i'm not too sad to be done with cold nights on the field :)
wednesday morning at 10am the school nurse called to say ashford was in her office with a headache/minor sore throat and needed to be picked up. he did not have a fever or anything, just was feeling a little under the weather, but i know that they have to be extra careful nowadays. we relaxed at home the rest of the day. he seemed fine wednesday night/thursday morning so i sent him back on thursday.
after school on thursday he insisted that i take him to look for a santa hat to wear on friday. he is very picky/sensitive about what he wears (only wears comfy/athletic clothes in certain colors and won't do pajama day at school because he thinks its embarrassing), so i found his excitement about a santa hat really surprising/adorable. we were able to find one and he was a happy camper.
i've been hearing a lot about other people's kids' school week before the break being filled with spirit days and a million to-do items for parents. i'm thankful our school(s) are pretty chill. both kids were having a small party in the afternoon friday and a pajama day, but that was about it. i took advantage of my last day with them in school by meeting vanessa for lunch at hattie's hat.
the kids got out one hour early on friday. that night we ordered thai for dinner, and simone had a sleepover here with azalea. the kids took over the living room so thatcher and i watched a christmas movie upstairs.
saturday morning was ashford's kid birthday party. let me tell you, finding a date for a birthday party around christmas is not easy. there was no date that worked for all of his best buddies, but saturday worked for most, so we went with it. he wanted to go to 'defy' (the trampoline park) in tukwila. the boys had a great time running around for 90 mins.
then we came back to our house for pizza, cupcakes, and opening gifts.
i was pooped by the time they all left :) we relaxed at home the rest of the day, which felt great.
sunday morning we took the kids to get their covid boosters. they hadn't had one since last december, so it was definitely time. after lunch azalea and i went to the library then she hung out with sisi for a while. i watched 'the holiday'. in the evening we went to some friends' for dinner last minute. chris is thatcher's co-worker and it was his birthday. so we hung out with him, his wife & daughter (4th grader), and another co-worker of chris & thatcher's. it was a really fun night! and it was snowing, which was really cozy.
we woke up to a little dusting of snow and more might be on the way this week. today ashford is going to the orthodontist to get some measurements taken and the rest of the day we will decorate gingerbread cookies and probably watch more christmas movies. i can't believe christmas is under a week away!
