good bye smoke, hello rain!

last week started off with more fall festival prep, school, work, and soccer practice for azalea (the air quality was okay enough on monday). the smoke lingered in the air for the better part of the week, which was brutal. i even started wearing a mask outside to breathe less of it in because it was giving me headaches. i hate that our late summers (and now falls) are like this.

thursday night was ashford's 3rd grade curriculum night. he enthusiastically showed us around his classroom: lots of art projects, the job board, etc. it still feels exciting for parents to be back in the school after we weren't able to for a couple of years. but it feels weird to only have one kid in elementary school.

friday morning the smoke dissipated, the temp dropped and rain arrived in seattle. i cannot tell you how monumental this felt after a super weird, apocalyptic-like fall so far. everyone was giddy over it. i busted out my rain coat and boots for the first time this season. that evening azalea and i went to see simone's short theater production at their middle school with her parents and brother. it was really cute. :)

we made pizza for dinner and watched 'the haunted house' for a movie night with the kids.

saturday morning we hung out at home, cleaned, did laundry. thatcher and azalea made cookies.

ashford was wearing a crown he made at school in honor of 'national wombat day'. their class mascot is a stuffed wombat named wallace. :)

in the afternoon i took the kids to the movie theater in northgate to see 'lyle lyle crocodile' with some friends. it was a cute movie, but kinda weird and i can't decide if i liked it or not. ha! but a movie outing is always fun. arlo came back with us and we made tacos for dinner. at 8pm i had a wedding party to attend at the sunset tavern for my friends alice and joe. they got married back in august. thatcher opted to stay home with the kids, so i took kay as my +1 :) it was fun to get dressed up and go out. the couple owns the sunset tavern and it was closed down for the night for their event. they had mexican food catered, and karoake. it was a really fun night!

sunday we made a big breakfast and then put pork shoulder in the crockpot for dinner. we mostly relaxed at home. azalea had a soccer game in the afternoon, which they lost again :( thatcher took her to that and i stayed home with ashford because his friend raleigh came over to play. i read a lot and lounged around. azalea had fun wearing my 'back stage pass' from the party the night before.

halloween is in one week! october is flying by.
