lots of playdates, a housewarming party, halloween prep

the kids are almost 2 weeks into the school year. at the beginning of the school year, each day always feels so memorable and individual. then october hits and all of a sudden it's may. ha! so i'm preparing myself for that.

last monday azalea got to start her full 6th grade schedule. she has homeroom followed by 6 classes (world cultures, math, science, study hall, mythology, and language arts), each in their own room with different teachers and kids. i think she's really liking this change. she's still spending most of her social time with kids she knew from elementary school, but i'm sure that will change as time goes on.

ashford has been insisting on daily play dates with fritz and arlo after school. it feels like a lot of work at times, but hard to say no when he doesn't get to be in class with them. we rotate houses, which makes it more manageable.

tuesday morning my friend kay had a small group of PTA moms over to talk about planning the fall festival at school. she is always the hostess with the mostest. a meeting barely feels like a meeting when good food and mimosas are involved. ;)

this is just a random picture of thatcher and the kids watching 'the price is right' on his phone one night. but they looked so cute.

thursday evening the four of us went to a housewarming party at our friends virginie & simon's in west seattle. thatcher has known them for a while, but the kids and i just met them at the wedding we went to a couple weeks ago. they live in a beautiful modern townhouse that has the hugest rooftop deck i've ever seen, with a view of the downtown skyline. they comfortably hosted around 25 people up there. my kids were the only kids there (yes, they were invited. ha!). they did so well just hanging out and playing with the cat and thatcher and i were able to have a really nice, relaxing evening. what a treat! the only picture i took was of their festive halloween lights when we were leaving.

friday azalea and simone hung out at our house after school. then we got thai take out for dinner (ashford ate 3 plates on pad thai!!) and watched a movie with the kids.

saturday morning i took the kids to target and spirit halloween. it's always a fun outing. we like to go in september before everything gets picked over. it's fun to see their personalities come out there - azalea loves all the scary stuff and ashford is more hesitant. azalea got part of her costume and ashford looked at some, but ultimately decided he's going to borrow one from fritz's older brother. stay tuned!

in the afternoon, arlo came over to play with ashford. then we made tacos for dinner and watched another movie.

sunday morning we made eggs, biscuits, and bacon for breakfast. ashford went to arlo's house for the afternoon, and azalea had a soccer game. they lost again, which i know is disappointing for the girls. hopefully they will get a win under their belt one of these weeks.

my mom arrives today, so i'm super happy about that. also, azalea gets to go to a summer camp on orcas island this week for 2 nights with all the 6th graders with school. i am so excited for her! it's the first time the school has been able to do it since 2019.
