15th wedding anniversary, school carnival, thatcher turns 40

 we survived another week of all the things and we are one week out from the end of school and leaving for our trip! this turned into a long post, so grab a drink and have a seat.

last monday i took our subaru in for an oil change/regular maintenance. i don't know if i've mentioned it here, but we are leaving to drive to minneapolis just 3 days after we get back from prague, so we want to make sure the car is in good shape. and yes, we are a bit crazy doing these two trips back to back, but it was just the way we needed to schedule things. wish us luck!

tuesday morning the kids both had their annual well check ups at the doctor. they both got good reports and are growing, growing, growing. ashford is 51.5 inches and azalea is 57.5 inches. azalea had to get three different vaccines at the appointment, which she was pretty upset about, but she did okay. 

wednesday the kids did their weekly 7-11 treat run after school and then ashford got a much-needed hair cut. 

thursday was our 15th wedding anniversary! we had a pretty normal day to mark a pretty special milestone :) thatcher worked from home. i worked, and volunteered in ashford's class. ashford was supposed to have a baseball game in the evening, but it got rained out. we ordered vietnamese takeout from 'krackle mi' and had a movie date on the couch while the kids played their video games in the other room. it was kinda fun since we never watch (non-kid) movies together anymore. here's a picture from our wedding day in 2007. 

friday my friend katie from high school informed me that we graduated exactly 20 years ago that day (june 10th, 2002) and posted some fun pictures on social media. this month is so full of milestones! i'm not sure if there will be a class reunion, but i think it would be awesome if there was. we did have a 10 year reunion, so we'll see. during the last hour of the school day, there was an end of the year gathering for second grade students, teachers, and parents out on the field. 

 

it started to rain towards the end and was forecasted to rain all evening, which was a huge bummer because the first school carnival in 3 years was planned for friday night (outdoors). it still went on despite the steady rain and so many families came, which was awesome. there were food trucks, games, the school mascots, and face painting/hair coloring. the kids had such a fun night. all these elementary school "lasts" for azalea feel so bittersweet.

 

 

 

 

  

thatcher stayed home to make his birthday cake for sunday :) then we all watched 'sonic the hedgehog 2' when we got back.

saturday morning ashford had his last baseball game of the season. i'm glad it didn't get rained out since so many of them did. they won their game and afterward kay and i planned a little donut and trophies celebration. it was another fun season of watching him play. he tells me he doesn't like playing, but it sure looks like he has a blast out there, so i'm going to keep pushing him. ;)

in the afternoon, ashford went to his friend arlo's and azalea hung out with sisi. i read my book on my deck in the sunshine. at the end of ashford's playdate, azalea and i went over and hung out in their yard. they have a golden doodle named charlie who is hilarious. 

thatcher was gone all day saturday on a long hike near mount rainier with his friends ryan and koren. they hiked 12 miles! it looked beautiful. 

we had dinner when he got home and watched a movie with the kids. 

sunday was thatcher's 40th birthday! we made breakfast, skyped with my mom and brother, and then hit the road for bellingham, wa (1.5 hours north). it's one of thatcher's favorite places in washington. we went to a restaurant we really like called 'old town cafe' for lunch. 

 

 

then we grabbed coffee at 'camber'. 

 

 

 

on past trips to bellingham, we've walked by the 'spark museum of electrical invention', so thatcher wanted to check it out. it was a really cool place with lots of original telephones, record players, light bulbs, etc.

 

 

 

 they also had a live demonstration that was super cool. thatcher volunteered to go into a grounded metal cage and be hit with 200k volts of electricity! definitely a unique experience for his milestone birthday :) 

 

 

we drove back to seattle after and had dinner, cake, and opened gifts at home. with our big trip coming up, we kept his birthday festivities low key. but can anyone please explain how we have gotten this old?!

 

now we're in the last week of school, let's do this! azalea's graduation is on friday and there are festivities for the families all day. then it's time to pack our bags!
