mall date, snow shoeing, model rockets

another week of january down. as i've mentioned, this is my least favorite month of the year. it always moves at a glacial pace and i'm antsy for travel plans and spring weather. speaking of spring weather, we had a couple days in the upper 50s last week. but overall it's been a super rainy/gloomy month. i've been doing dry january (i did it last year too). i miss my weekend wine, but it feels good to take a break from alcohol for a month. my clothes fit better too - imagine that!

we had a pretty typical school/work week here last week. every day that the kids are able to stay in-person feels like a little victory. lots of seattle schools have been switching to remote, but they are doing it on a school by school basis (when needed), rather than the whole district this time. thatcher went into the office twice last week - he hadn't been there since mid december. it still feels weird to have the house all to myself after almost 2 years of that never happening.

one morning last week, i had to drag the kids away from their books to get to school on time. azalea does a lot of independent reading at home, but ashford...not so much. so it was photo worthy. :)

we've been having some beautiful sunsets this month. it doesn't really feel like the days are getting longer yet, but i know they are. i signed up ashford for spring baseball again. it will start in mid-march.

i always keep our holiday cards up through january because i love looking at them. then a take i picture and throw them all in the recycling ;)

friday after school ashford went to his friend fritz's, we got takeout after i picked him up and we watched a movie. on saturday morning, azalea and i had a date to alderwood mall to use her claire's giftcard. she was thrilled. she picked out this fluffy pen (i'm not even gonna tell you what it cost! ha) and these cute earrings.

then she talked me into getting her a cookie.

the rest of the day we got groceries and new library books, hung out at home, made pizza for dinner and watched another movie.

sunday morning thatcher headed to the mountains to go snow shoeing with some friends. he went last year too and had a lot of fun. i'm glad he could get out and do something fun since he's been working his butt off lately.

the kids and i had a lazy day at home. they played with the neighbors in the afternoon and we zoomed with my mom and brother. thatcher built model rockets with the kids to blast off on monday. this was something he did with them at the end of 2019 and they loved it.

sunday night we watched another movie since it wasn't a school night.

monday (mlk day) the kids were off school and thatcher was off work. i had some invoicing to do for work, so he took the kids to redmond with the rockets. they had a fun time, though azalea's rocket had technical difficulties.

in the afternoon i took ashford to get his hair cut at rudy's barber on ballard ave. it was his first time going there and we will be back!

now onto a 4 day week...
