final soccer game, friends moving away, kid covid vaccines

all of last week felt a bit upside down. nothing life shattering, but it was a weird school week with the thursday holiday and last-minute friday cancellation. a close friend of mine and her family are moving back to australia soon, so i've been processing the emotions that come with that...and the holidays are quickly approaching!

on tuesday i did #onedayhh so you heard way too much plenty about my day ;)

thursday the kids (and thatcher) had off school/work for veterans day. we didn't have any big plans. i went to the gym in the morning and did my bookkeeping work. then i picked up mcdonald's and we took it over to vanessa's to eat lunch and hang out with her and ewan. thatcher got a hair cut in the afternoon :) it was super rainy so we pretty much did screen time the rest of the day. after dinner azalea and i watched a christmas movie in bed. yay!

friday was a day full of playdates. in the morning ashford's buddy arlo came over to our house for a few hours. then ashford went to his house for a couple hours. ha. azalea had simone here for a few hours. then the kids and i went to my friend kay's to hang out with her and her boys. she had lots of fun snacks and the kids had a ball. we got home and i had 20 minutes before i needed to head out for a going away dinner for my friend alison. we had a reservation at stoneburner on ballard ave. it was such a nice dinner with mom friends from school. alison and her family moved here 3 years ago from australia and they have enjoyed their time, but they are heading back there the week of thanksgiving for a new job opportunity.

saturday was also really busy. azalea had her final soccer game of the season in the morning. they tied 1-1. the girls had such a good season and we can't get over how much their skills have improved this year. there will be an end of the season party at some point and possibly a tournament in december.

after lunch, the kids and i went to ashford's friend cameron's new house in magnolia (neighborhood across the bridge from us). he moved there this fall and will be changing schools after the holidays. we've known them since ashford and cameron were in preschool together, so hopefully we can stay in touch. the kids played with their 7 month old bernadoodle and ate brownies :)

that would have been enough action for one day, but we had one more get together to attend. alison and her husband invited about 4 families to their house for a little going away party. they planned to have it mostly outside, but it was raining (shocker), so we had about 15 people in their house. it was loud and fun and felt very pre-covid. they ordered pizzas and put a movie on in the basement for the kids. all of their furniture has already been shipped, so they are living on camping chairs and blow up mattresses.

by sunday i was all peopled out (it takes a lot for me to get to that point as i'm an extrovert for the most part). we had no plans except the kids had appointments for their first covid shots. so exciting! we went to uw hospital northwest for a vaccine clinic. it was mostly kids getting vaccinated, but also some people getting boosters. the nurses were amazing. despite having their flu shots just a few weeks ago, the kids were a bundle of nerves. they both did great, though. i was so proud of them. they will get their second dose around december 5th and they will be fully vaccinated before christmas. so awesome. we've waited for this day for a long time!

this coming week is much quieter. it's the last week of school before thanksgiving break and my brother comes into town next monday.
