baseball, donuts, memorial day weekend

happy unofficial start to summer! seattle has the weather to prove it. we're having our first 80 degree days today and tomorrow.

last monday night ashford had a make up baseball game. ashford played catcher for the first time ever and he loved it. it was so cute to see him crouched down in all the gear.

wednesday was remote school day, so we took a field trip to mighty-o donuts between classes. i think the kids like the coffee just as much as the donuts. ;)

thursday it went back and forth between pouring rain and sunshine all day. ashford was supposed to have another game in the evening, but it got rained out. :(

friday afternoon while the kids were at school, i watched the friends reunion on HBO max. i loved it so much! we kicked off the 3-day weekend with takeout and a movie night. our neighbors lent us their patio umbrella for the summer, so our deck got an upgrade. it gets so hot back there in the mid afternoon with the direct sunlight, so it's perfect.

saturday morning i took the kids to golden gardens for azalea's friend simone's 10th birthday party. families were invited to stay and hang out, so we did. it was a beautiful day and the parking lot was already nearly full at 10am. the kids had a blast running around the playground and the beach and eating snacks/treats. it was a fun time.

sunday morning we hit the road for the olympic peninsula. originally we were just going to go for the day because all of the hotels, cabins, and campsites were sold out. but we managed to snag a last minute hotel room cancellation in port angeles. wahoo! we stopped for a picnic lunch at belair state park and enjoyed the inlet.

then we made our way to port angeles. we hung out by the waterfront and got a snack before checking into our hotel.

we decided to get dinner from a bbq place in town. we had hoped to dine on their patio, but they were operating at super low capacity and told us there was a 45 minute wait to sit out there despite the fact that only one table was occupied. strange. so we got our food to go and ate it at a picnic table outside our hotel. it was delish!

on memorial day, we headed out early to go to lake crescent for the first time. it was absolutely incredible. we hiked a couple miles on a nice, paved trail. the color of the water was the most vibrant dark blue and there was an old railroad tunnel to go through, as well as a bridge over "devil's punchbowl."

he took this selfie in the tunnel and it cracks me up.

after our hike, we got lunch at dairy queen in sequim (DQ is becoming a tradition on our pnw trips). we started our drive back to seattle. we decided to take the bainbridge ferry back because it didn't look like a long wait, but they were running behind so it ended up being a 90 minute wait. oh well.

overall it was a fantastic weekend and is making me so excited for the other summer adventures we will have :)
