my mom and brother's visit

we had the best week with my mom and brother. now that we are all vaccinated (well the adults, at least) it feels like a sigh of relief to be together in close quarters for a week. they were here from sunday night til saturday morning. the weather was absolutely perfect everyday - sunny and 60s/low 70s.

monday we hung out with the kids in the morning. this picture turned out blurry, but it's too cute not to share.

my brother and i went to the gym 3 times (my first visits in 14 months!). i'm so excited to get back to it. i definitely need to ease into it, though. ouch.

after we dropped the kids off at school, my mom, brother and i walked down to ballard ave to look for a spot to have lunch outside, but every where was packed. we were about to give up and just grab something at the grocery store, but kangaroo and kiwi's patio on market street was almost empty, so we grabbed a spot. i had never been there in our almost 6 years in ballard. we got delicious fish and chips and soaked up the sun. we picked up the kids and hung out for a while then we took the kids up to the field to play some much-awaited baseball with unkie :) after that ashford had his regular practice for an hour.

after dinner was a costume dance party. it was a busy day :)

tuesday we hung out at home in the morning then dropped the kids off at school. vanessa picked up my mom, brother, and me and we went to rays to have lunch on the deck. it was a beautiful day, but they only had tables in the shade available, so it was a little chilly. it was nice to have lunch with all of them together. after we finished, we went down to the dock to see the sea lions who have been there for months. they are so cute and funny. my mom and brother loved them. we could have watched them all day.

we hung out at home after the kids finished school. lots of playing rack-o and yahtzee. my mom and i enjoyed happy hour on the deck.

we made dinner and then played apples to apples (in costume again, of course) :)

wednesday the kids were home from school, so we took a drive down to gene coulon memorial beach park in renton. our family went there a few weeks ago on a cool, rainy day and i wanted to go back on a nice day. we had a picnic lunch, walked around the park, saw some cute ducklings, and the kids played on the playground.

we got thai takeout for dinner and played more games in the evening.

thursday after we dropped the kids off at school, my mom, brother, and i walked down to the locks (which recently re-opened fully). we spent lots of time relaxing on our deck. in the evening, thatcher and i got to have a rare date night. we went to casco antiguo in south lake union and ate in the covered patio. it was so so good.

after dinner we got dessert at whole foods and then drove to elliot bay park in interbay for a walk along the water. it was a beautiful night. my mom, brother, and the kids picked up scooters for dinner and watched a movie while we were gone.

friday after the kids went to school, my mom and i went to see my friend kay's garden/yard. my mom loves gardening and i knew she would love seeing kay's beautiful work. i was right :) we mostly hung out at home the rest of the day. we made smoked salmon pasta for dinner and brandon and thatcher took the kids to the field for one last baseball session.

they left early saturday morning. we miss them already, but are so thankful we got to see them, and our trip to minnesota is coming up in august. thatcher was gone all day saturday on a bike ride on the peninsula with a bunch of people from his work. i'm so glad he got the opportunity to do that. the kids and i hung out at home most of the day. ashford had a baseball game in the afternoon, they tied. in the evening the kids and i scrounged up dinner and watched a movie.

sunday we cleaned, grocery shopped, and got the house back in order. thatcher took azalea & ashford (and azalea's friend eleanor) to the girls' soccer game and i stayed home for some me time. the girls won their first game this season so they were ecstatic!

now back to our routine - and way less nice weather :( today is may 17th, which is syttende mai (norweigan constitution day). this is the second year in a row they cancelled the big parade in ballard. hopefully next year it will be back and better than ever.
