spring break in ashford, wa

the kids were on spring break from school all of last week.

we spent the first half of the week at home. on monday it was sunny with a high of 60 degrees, so i told the kids i would take them to golden gardens in the afternoon. i also decided to be a fun mom and include ice cream from little coney's in the trip. what i underestimated was how insanely windy/cold it would feel by the water. the kids were frozen while they sat and ate their ice cream.

we attempted to play on the beach, but it felt soooo cold that we didn't last long. ah well.

we went home to our deck, which felt 15 degrees warmer :)

ashford had baseball practice monday night. tuesday we hung out at home and prepped for our trip!

we hit the road wednesday after lunch time for...ashford, wa! we stopped at a park in puyallup (about an hour south of seattle). you don't have to go very far to know you are out of seattle...the park was packed and barely a mask in sight. :/

we got to our airbnb in the mid afternoon. it was a really cute cabin on the most picturesque creekside setting. we got settled in and the kids ran around and explored. the first night we cooked dinner over the campfire (hot dogs and smores). we also went in the hot tub and watched a movie.

thursday we relaxed in the morning, then we packed a picnic lunch for our outing.

we ate our lunch at alder lake and hung out on the beach for a while. it was a really pretty spot.

next we drove to a hike called "mashel falls". we hiked 3 miles round trip. the falls were so incredibly breathtaking. the kids whined sooooo much about the hike, so that took away some of the fun, but overall it was worth it.

when we returned it was time for a well deserved snack

we made a campfire again, cooked frozen pizza for dinner (i was all about the easy dinners on this trip), made smores again, went in the hot tub, and watched another movie. we had our vacation routine down in no time :)

friday we mostly hung out at the cabin. i did a little work in the morning.

we walked down the road to a funny little old school playground and looked at some of the other cabins. there were so many cute new ones and all of them are very modest in size.

we had lunch at the cabin and then went to a bigger playground in town. it was full sun and the temp was climbing, so we didn't last long. we drove some scenic roads around the area and then stopped to get ice cream at a cute historic motel.

then it was back to the cabin to read and play video games. we made our last campfire and ate tortellini for dinner and made smores one more time.

ashford and i popped in the hot tub again and then we all watched a movie. 3 nights of the kids staying up late and not sleeping in. classic.

during our stay, multiple times a day we had deer visitors. they were really cute and didn't seem too scared by us.

we had to be out in the late morning on saturday, so we packed up and cleaned a bit. the weather was in the low 70's the last couple days and we came back to seattle where it was in the upper 70s and felt like summer! we spent the rest of the weekend at home, enjoying the beautiful weather.

and now it's back to school (again...). we are ready!

I definitely whined about walking as a kid, but I will say that eventually I learned to like it. And as a kid, ice cream as a treat never hurts!
