some snow days and a 3 day weekend

i mentioned that last monday we woke up to a little snow on the ground. seattle public schools declared a 2 hour delayed start. the kids were thrilled and went out to play in it as soon as i would let them. it wasn't very much snow, but it was wet snow so they were able to make snow balls and a snow man, which they found super thrilling.

monday night it snowed again (just a dusting) and they had another 2 hour delay tuesday. i have to admit, it was nice to have some extra time in the mornings and they don't have to make up those days either. win-win.

tuesday they started really hyping the snow forecast (2-4 inches coming!!! ha!). at 9:30pm they called a full snow day for wednesday. we went to bed thinking we would wake up to a winter wonderland. but when we woke up there was no snow at all and it was 37 degrees out. kind of a letdown when they cancelled school anyway! my friend julie invited us over for lunch and to hang out with her son ben and some other 3rd graders who were coming over. the kids had a blast running around, reading, and playing outside.

as we were wrapping up our time there, it actually began to snow! we came home and the kids played in it as it accumulated to less than an inch. wednesday night it rained and washed it all away and thursday it was back to regular programming! i kinda hope that's all the snow we get this season, but we shall see. ;)

friday night i had a night out to a movie with some mama friends (vanessa, erica, heather, and heather's mom). i hardly ever see non-animated movies these days! we saw "little women" at the theater in ballard and it was so good! we all loved it. after the movie, vanessa, erica, and i went to pie bar for a drink and dessert. it was delicious as always!

now i want to re-watch the one from the 90s and re-read the book.

saturday we had no plans. i went to the gym, thatcher got groceries, we hung around the house. azalea and i escaped to target and the library for a while in the afternoon, which was nice. she's a good shopping buddy :) we made smoked salmon salads for dinner (the kids had mac n cheese) and we all watched the second movie in the narnia series.

sunday we decided to head to tacoma (an hour away) for lunch and to explore in an effort to break up the 3 day weekend. we have been a couple times before, so we decided to check out a different area called ruston point near point defiance. we had lunch at a burger kitchen + whiskey bar and then headed over to the lakewalk which had an incredible view of mount rainier. it was almost 50 degrees out, which didn't hurt either.

we relaxed at home the rest of the day.

monday was MLK day - both thatcher and the kids had the day off. but i technically didn't ;) i did some work and went to the gym in the morning. thatcher and azalea took a trip to swanson's nursery. the kids and i watched "the miracle worker" (circa 1962) in the afternoon. azalea has been very interested in helen keller after learning about her in school. we grilled dinner and got ready for the 4 day week ahead!

That's the way to have snow! I thought that Little Women was wonderful (I don't even know how many times I've read the book).
