halloween 2019: the year of harry potter

another halloween is in the books! while christmas is my favorite holiday hands down, i do really love halloween - especially after having kids. for the second year in a row, i decided to join them in dressing up. in addition to harry potter and hermione granger, we also had a witch! i bought a second-hand dress at value village and borrowed a wig and witch hat from friends.

i also got my nails done to go with my costume and they were perfect!!

the kids did some very minimal celebrating at school (no costumes or halloween references allowed though). ashford had a cookie decorating party in his class and azalea's class did a fall craft with their 1st grade reading buddies. after school we raced home to get into our costumes for the ballard business district trick or treat at 4pm. vanessa and ewan came over and we took some pictures

it was our 3rd year going and it's always so much fun. so many people participate and tons of adults dress up as well. it's really fun to run into families we know from the kids' school. thatcher and matt met us down there.

when it was over, we all went for dinner at 8oz burger co. i promised azalea that she could do some neighborhood trick or treating with her friends too (even though they already had so much candy!!). so we all stopped home to get warmer stuff on and headed out for round 2. we did another 45 minutes in the neighborhood and then it was time to call it a night.

so much candy: exhibit A (over 300 pieces to be exact!)

i actually have another halloween party tonight with a bunch of parents from azalea's school at the ballard elks lodge so we get to enjoy the holiday a little bit longer...before i get hyper focused on christmas!  ;)
