more snow, valentine's day, pink eye

it was another exciting week around here. and we are so ready for vacation :)

last monday school was cancelled for both kids. we filled the day with a visit from vanessa and ewan (yes, we basically saw them every snow day - ha!). we made nachos for lunch, the kids played outside a bit. later the kids and i headed to the library to get some new books. we also got "the parent trap" starring lindsay lohan and watched it when we got back. it was a hit! it snowed hard monday afternoon/evening. big puffy, wet flakes, which accumulated an inch or two on top of what we had.

on tuesday school was cancelled again, not surprisingly. we met vanessa and ewan at mcdonalds in our neighborhood for lunch and to have the kids burn off some energy. azalea's friend ben and his mom julie showed up too.

that night i escaped to the gym, which felt good. it reached 40 degrees and rained a bunch, helping to melt the snow.

wednesday school was cancelled again which made all seattle parents scream with rage. especially those in our neighborhood who were dealing with almost no snow on the roads anymore. i know other areas had it worse, so it was justified, but we were all going a bit crazy from 5 snow days in 1.5 weeks. the kids and i went to target in the morning and in the afternoon the stars aligned and both kids got invited to overlapping play dates. i celebrated my two hours of freedom with a trip to the grocery store and java bean. ashford had a dental check up in the later afternoon, where we learned he has 2 loose teeth. my baby!! i can't believe it.

thursday was valentine's day! there was a 2 hour delayed start for seattle schools (*eye roll*) and ashford's preschool was still closed. siiiiigh. we got azalea off to school at 10:50 and then ashford and i headed to....you guessed it...vanessa and ewan's! we had lunch with them and then we took the boys to seattle gymnastics academy for their open play time. they had a ball. we hadn't been there in a couple years, but we will definitely be back!

azalea got to bring valentines to school and celebrate with her class. the ones with suckers are ashford's.

in the evening we ordered thai take out, i ran to the gym right after dinner, and then we all enjoyed a chocolate souffle that thatcher made and gave the kids a couple small gifts.

friday was the first normal school day all week! azalea had an orthodontist appt before school, so i dropped ashford off at his friend's house so he could get there on time. azalea missed the first 45 minutes of her day. she got 3 new brackets put on her teeth. ashford came home from school and fell asleep on the couch for two hours which he never does! red flag!!

he seemed fine after and even played at the playground after we picked up azalea, but after his bath that night, he said his eye was bothering him and i could see it was producing goop. fantastic! he took forever to fall asleep that night (because of the nap) and when he woke up on saturday morning, his eye was completely crusted shut.

i called the pediatrician at 7:30 am saturday because i was on a mission to get him going on drops before our trip! we were able to get in quickly. they said he would no longer be contagious 24 hours after starting them. whew! thatcher and azalea went on some errands together and i stayed home with ashford (more house arrest - haha). in the afternoon, i headed to "the dane" to work on some invoicing. it was so crowded there, i had to share a table with two strangers, but they were very nice ;) thatcher and the kids watched "the parent trap" again while i was gone. we planned to grill burgers for dinner, but it was pouring so we made breakfast food instead.

sunday we hung out at home for the morning and then thatcher took the kids to the new lego movie at the theater in our neighborhood. i finished my invoicing for work and then went to the gym. we hung out at home for the rest of the day and packed a bit for our trip.

today thatcher is off for president's day and it's the first day of the kids' "midwinter break" (a whole week) from school. great timing after all those snow days, right? ;) azalea and i are getting pedicures (her first time!), so she's super excited. our flight leaves for florida at 6:30 am tuesday morning. it's gonna hurt, but we are so excited to see my mom and my brother. the forecast shows 80 and sunny every day for the next week. i cannot wait for some fun in the sun!

Hooray for a first pedicure! Its so normal these days for kiddos to get them, but I'm pretty sure I was in high school (or maybe college?) when I got my first one. Enjoy Florida!
