a quiet december weekend

this weekend felt super quiet after the excitement of having guests in town for almost 2 weeks. but it was a good thing because thatcher was a little under the weather and it's was chilly out (for seattle) and really rainy.

after picking up the kids from school on friday, we made sugar cut out cookies. i bought the dough at the store to make it a little less labor-intensive. ;) thatcher made us frosting when he got home from work to decorate them.

they look more like easter cookies, but that's ok :)

that night i went out with my friend, chrissy for a glass of wine. we went to "the dane" again because we both fell in love with the atmosphere (and the lambrusco wine) last time. it's so darn cozy with all the candles and they had live music too!

this picture isn't great, but check them out. i think they were a danish group:

saturday morning we hung out at home. after lunch, we had an exciting family outing to the grocery store. the kids and i ended up sitting at the coffee bar and enjoying some treats while thatcher did the shopping ;)

ashford and i dropped off azalea and thatcher at the post office to mail all of our holiday cards, including our first time attempt at sending mail to anders and nith in laos! i'm curious to see how long it will take to get there (if at all). they told us mail isn't super reliable there and isn't delivered to people's homes (only businesses). we didn't send anything of value for that reason. we hung out at home the rest of the day. i snuck in a little nap on the couch. we made pork chops for dinner and then watched the first "harry potter" movie with the kids! i think i mentioned that thatcher and azalea were reading the first book together (i listened to parts of it) and they finished it a few days ago. neither thatcher nor i had ever read the books or seen the movies.

sunday morning thatcher and i took turns sleeping in. azalea had another birthday party to attend and we hadn't gotten a gift yet, so we set out to do that. then we headed to her friend ben's party which was at arena sports (indoor bouncy houses, slides etc). it was a drop-off party, so i was able to go run some errands, which was nice. i went to university village, which was a mad house. i exchanged a hat that i bought online at h&m and then had a relaxing lunch at an italian deli before heading back to pick up azalea. we spent the rest of the day at home. thatcher headed to urgent care to see if he could get some answers about his symptoms. he ended up being there for almost four hours! and came home with instructions to let it "run its course." classic.

december is flying by! i'm feeling mostly done with my shopping, but not 100%. i better get on that, considering ashford's birthday comes first!
