hello june!

june is here. there are 3 more weeks of school (which i realize is a long school year, but even so, i can't believe how quickly it went!).

azalea had a big change in her 1st grade class last week. her teacher (who i absolutely love) had to travel to california unexpectedly because of a family emergency. it has now turned into him needing to be gone for the remainder of the school year and their class will have a steady sub for the last 3 weeks. i'm so bummed that we won't get to say goodbye to him before summer, but i'm glad he can be with his family at such an important time. i can't believe i'll have a second grader soon...how?!

they had "art from the heart" on friday (which is run by an outside group) and painted each other's faces :) 

unrelated, but ashford's preschool class made a cook book where the teachers wrote down word for word the kids' instructions for how to cook various dishes. it might be my favorite kid project ever! 

 this weekend was another busy one. no visitors, but lots of activities. we relaxed at home on friday night. saturday morning i was up and out the door by 8:20 to drive to west seattle for my inc. coworking board retreat. we did one last may as well (we gather for an entire day to work on issues we are facing and do some strategic planning). we had an outside facilitator this time, which was great. i won't lie, it was a long day (and the nicest weather day of the weekend), but we accomplished a lot!

thatcher had the kids all day and they had a blast. he took them out for ice cream and to some stores in ballard. they also went to the community center field to kick a ball around. 

we all had dinner together and relaxed at home the rest of the night.

 sunday we spent most of the day one on one parenting. those days are kinda nice sometimes! azalea had a birthday party for her classmate henry up in edmonds (about 20 mins north of seattle). it was held at the "family fun center" which was like a chucky cheese with outdoor stuff too (harness trampolines, bumper boats, etc). basically every kid's dream and every parent's nightmare. haha! of course she had a blast there. they got tokens for arcade games and a wristband for the other stuff, followed by lunch and cake. we were there for hours!

then we had to head out to attend her second social engagement of the day (ha!). another classmate of hers, tyler (well, tyler's parents) hosted a play date for about 6 kids at their house to play board games, do crafts, and play outside on their trampoline, blow bubbles, etc. i dropped her off and ran some errands, which was nice.

 i hung out with all the parents for a bit when i returned. what a lucky girl getting to do so much fun stuff in one day! thatcher and ashford spent the morning at home playing legos, then ventured out to the ballard farmers market, the science center, and to ride some trains, buses, and trolleys :) 

we grilled dinner when we were all back and hung out together for the rest of the night. the sun is setting so late these days. one night i went to bed at 9:10 and it was still light out. thankfully it doesn't interfere with the kids going to sleep at night. they are always so tired at the end of the day!
