currently: feeling like fall

i write one of these posts every september and i love going back and re-reading them. it touches on subjects i don't usually write about, so i think they are especially fun to go back and read even if some of the answers stay the same over the years.

right now i'm currently...

appreciating: the beautiful fall weather we've been having. lots of sun and 60's before we get into the rainy season. i'm also appreciating the balance that has been restored back to my life now that the kids are back in school. i love being with them, but the summer is a lot of togetherness, and we all function better with some routine and time apart during the week.

looking forward to: i almost always say something travel-related, and this year is no exception. at the end of august we booked our annual post-christmas cabin stay. we're heading back to ashford, wa but staying in a different cabin this time. one other change is that we aren't staying for NYE. as the kids get older, they are often invited to friends' for that night and we've had to say no the last few years, so decided we will come back that day rather than new years day. it looks so cozy and i can't wait. i'm also looking forward to all the visitors we have coming this fall: thatcher's aunt and uncle, my mom, and my brother in october (all separately, but whew!) and thatcher's parents are coming for thanksgiving too!

wearing: i haven't officially switched over to my fall wardrobe yet because the beginning of the month was fairly warm, but i think it's time. it's always hardest for me to stop wearing sandals. it helps having some cute new sneakers though! i got these from target and have worn them a few times and they are very comfy! i'm also on the hunt for a gray "coatigan" because i wear my black one and tan one all the time. they are thicker than a regular sweater (so i can usually skip a jacket) and i love the look of them.

reading: i just finished my 40th book of the year, so i'm right on par with last year. my goal is 50 books/yr, but i should surpass that. my last read was 'a man called ove' which was a very popular book a decade ago that i had never read. i enjoyed it and i'm going to watch the movie adaptation soon. the book i read before that was 'a good neighborhood' which i also really enjoyed. it has a fairly depressing plotline regarding race and class, but it had a surprise ending i didn't see coming.

watching: i'm not always good at keeping up on new shows that "everyone" is watching, but the exception to that is if i already read the book that's been turned into a show. i knew i wanted to watch "the perfect couple" on netflix when it heard about it, because i read the book years ago. so long ago that i didn't even remember most of the plotline. which is good when it's a murder mystery! :) i've also been making my way through "sex and the city" for the bajillionth time because it's just a great comfort show to re-watch. and the newest season of 'call the midwife' which never gets old.

listening to: i recently discovered kasey musgraves new album 'deeper well'. it's the perfect cozy fall music and i've been playing it on repeat.

eating: i've made a few of my standby fall meals already - beef roast with potatoes and carrots in the crockpot and ginger turmeric chicken veggie soup. i've also been making some new asian dishes lately because those are usually a hit with the kids. i made 'egg roll in a bowl' for the first time and it was really good! we did pumpkin pancakes for breakfast one day. and pumpkin cookies for dessert. apple crisp is still on my must-make list!

happy fall!
