unkie brandon's visit: a busy rainy sports weekend

last monday evening ashford was supposed to have a baseball game but it got rained out. we didn't find that out until we were already driving there because the heavy rainstorm sort of came out of nowhere. so we came home, unloaded the car, and made dinner instead :)

tuesday evening ashford's team was able to have a practice, so that was good.

wednesday evening was no activities. ashford had arlo over after school and they played at the park for a long time. it was a really nice day. i was reading in the evening and couldn't resist taking this pictures of my color coordinated book and pajamas. ha!

thursday evening ashford had a baseball game. it was a nice night before the rain returned. they won their game 12-0 so that was exciting, though i felt bad for the other team getting shut out. i haven't been good about taking pictures at games lately.

friday my brother arrived in town in the late afternoon. ashford and i went to pick him up at the airport and azalea hung out at sisi's. we were so happy to see him! when we got home, we had pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, and these mac n cheese balls i found at trader joes which look just like the ones they used to serve at our favorite bbq restaurant here that closed.

after dinner we headed down to the field so ashford and brandon could practice baseball. it was the only totally dry/warm day of the whole weekend. we also watched some of the minnesota twins game.

saturday morning we made waffles, eggs, and bacon for everyone. ashford agreed to a saturday karate class, so unkie could watch him for the first time. we picked up arlo on our way. brandon enjoyed seeing him in action.

we came home for a few hours, watched more twins baseball, and then it was off to ashford's game...in the rain! when brandon booked this trip a few weeks ago, i pictured us sitting at the field soaking up the sunshine, but seattle had other plans. ashford's team won 11-7 against a team from outside their league they had never played before. we were all super wet and cold by the end.

when we got home, i ordered thai take out for dinner. the kids played video games and we watched some 'alone' before bed.

sunday morning thatcher left early to prep for his conference planning meeting he is co-hosting here this week. and ashford got picked up shortly after for his friend trent's birthday at the trampoline park/lunch out. azalea headed off with her friends sisi, bridget, and lily to go to the ballard farmer's market. whew! at lunch time, brandon and i met azalea to go to 'lockspot cafe'. somehow my brother had never been there in almost 9 years of us living in seattle, so we had to fix that. we had a delicious lunch. thatcher went to a memorial in the afternoon for a co-worker who died a few months ago. ashford went to arlo's after the party and brandon and i went to azalea's soccer game. it was chilly out, but thankfully didn't rain during the game.

and azalea's team won 3-2!

the rest of the day we hung out at home, made dinner, and watched more 'alone'.

and just to wrap up his visit in this post - monday morning the kids headed off to school and thatcher was off to his conference planning meeting (at work). my brother and i dropped my car off for service then headed to the gym - had to show him the new digs! we went out for mexican for lunch at matador, which was so good. something we rarely get to do with just the two of us. then we went to gasworks park and enjoyed the views.

we hung out at home after the kids got out of school and then it was time for the final baseball game of the visit. i was so worried last week that these games would get rained out, but none of them did and we were so happy. ashford's team won again 10-5 and he caught another pop fly to the outfield. so exciting!

my brother headed back home this morning and we miss him, but we'll see him again in minneapolis in 2 months!
