movie date + karate belt test

hi, it's me with the same story again - january is long, it's still dark and rainy most of the time, though it was a little warmer last week.

i took ashford and arlo to karate on wednesday night and then arlo came to our house after for dinner.

friday evening ashford had another parents' night out at school, so azalea and i went to see the new 'mean girls' movie at the theater in our neighborhood and thatcher picked him up. i was cautiously optimistic because i love the original...but i thought the re-make was really good too! it feels weird to be at the life stage where movies that came out when i was a young adult start to be re-made when i'm...older. yikes. azalea enjoyed the movie too. we watched the original together in the last year.

saturday morning i took a trip to the bagel shop in our neighborhood to get bagels for the kids and me for a special breakfast (sorry thatcher). i'm happy the shop is doing well. it's their second location (first one is in fremont) and it was very busy at 8:30 am. later in the morning, ashford had his belt test for karate. he is moving from a white belt with black stripe to a yellow belt. he did great at the test, but he was all the way across the room from us, so it was hard to get any good pictures. he will get his new belt at class next week.

we hung out at home for the rest of the day. it actually got close to 50 degrees and the sun was out, so i read on my deck for a half hour, which was a huge mood booster. then we made dinner and watched a movie.

sunday we had no plans. thatcher ran some errands in the morning and the kids and i hung out at home. i looked over and these two were snuggling while watching tv. they are quite the frenemies ;)

azalea got invited to her friend penny's house for a few hours in the afternoon, so i dropped her off there. it was mostly just a relaxing day at home. i've been reading a ton this month. this is the second 'large print' book i've read in the last couple months because i figured out when i book i want has a wait at the library, the large print version usually doesn't!
