summer colds, first soccer practice, labor day weekend

 well, our last full week of summer vacation did not go how i envisioned it (and i have almost no pictures for this post). both kids woke up last monday with cold symptoms (sore throat, cough, congestion), but no fevers. we had to cancel azalea's friend clementine coming over that day, which she was sad about. we spent the day at home except for picking up chipotle takeout for lunch. we had planned to go there with azalea's friend for lunch, so i said we could still get it to-go. it was a long day at home otherwise. 

tuesday morning ashford added a low-grade fever to his symptoms. yayyy. thankfully (or unfortunately?) thatcher had taken the day off weeks in advance for all of us to go to mount rainier. we probably wouldn't have gone even if the kids weren't sick, because it was forecasted to rain all day. i did manage to escape for a little while in the morning to go to goodwill and the grocery store. ashford had to miss karate that night. azalea was feeling well enough to go to her first soccer practice of the season. she is on the same team with the same coach, but another team has merged with theirs, so there are 19 girls now! this is because U13 plays on a full-sized field with 11 on each side. wow! it's going to be a fun year. it was a wet first practice. 

wednesday we had another day at home to get ashford over the hump of being sick. azalea spent some time at sisi's. it was a nice day, so i spent a lot of time reading on the deck. 

thursday morning ashford was better and went to his friend starryn's for a play date. azalea and i walked down to 'sabine' on ballard ave. for a coffee and a treat. in the afternoon the kids had dental checks ups. good reports for both. ashford also got his teacher assignment for 4th grade. he got the teacher he was hoping for and has many friends in his class, so i think it's going to be a good year! in the evening i had a virtual pta kick off meeting. it's starting to feel a lot like school time! 

friday morning azalea's friend clementine came over. i took the kids to 'portage bay cafe' in our neighborhood for a brunchy lunch. my kids had never been there before, but clementine has, and she convinced them that the pancakes with a self-serve topping bar is amazing. so they all ordered that. and had huge stomach aches after ;) in the evening we had a bbq with all of the tenants in our building (there are 4 units). we all know each other, but haven't hung out as a group before, so i made it happen. our neighbor below us has a fenced in backyard, so we all gathered down there. i forgot to take any pictures, but it was a really fun night and we're looking forward to doing it again. 

saturday morning we hung out at home. in the afternoon, thatcher dropped off azalea at her friend penny's for a few hours. ashford had arlo over here. by the time arlo left, i was feeling the cold symptoms coming for me. i took a nap for an hour. by evening i was feeling pretty crappy. we watched 'back to the future III' and i slept through most of it. 

sunday morning thatcher needed to go up to our property to do some prep before the well drillers come. i was still feeling crappy. ashford went to arlo's for a few hours in the afternoon. i watched 'you've got mail'. i love to watch it every fall. i know it's not fall yet, but it was a dark, cool day, so it was perfect for it. 

yesterday was labor day. an anti-climactic end to summer. i still wasn't feeling great. in the afternoon azalea went swimming at mounger pool with clementine and her mom (it was 65 degrees out! haha). i watched "when harry met sally". another good fall movie :) by the evening i was feeling much better. 

school starts tomorrow! ready or not, here it comes!
