i went into last week prepared with plans for each day and a lot of patience. i kept reminding myself the weather is beautiful, i'm lucky to get to spend so much time with my kids, soon they will be off on their own and not need me so much. it helped...sort of :) when we are out and about doing things, everything feels easier. it's when we are all stuck in the house bored together when things get dicey. i tried to stay calm when they bickered with each other and with me. but we still had our moments. lots of them. just some realness to start off this post and for me to remember when i look back.
last monday i asked the kids if they wanted to go to the DEFY trampoline park. it's a favorite of theirs and we only go a couple times a year. they were a mixture of excited but also disappointed that we weren't going with any friends. but it's hard to spontaneously do stuff like that with friends the day of. between parent work schedules, day camps, and travel i've realized a lot of their friends aren't readily available this summer unless we plan way in advance. not to mention we can only fit one more kid in our car. so the three of us went and they still had fun. and i was able to get my invoicing done for work, so it was a win-win. we hung out at home the rest of the afternoon. azalea went to sisi's for a while. ashford had karate in the evening and got a ride with fritz. that evening i convinced azalea to go on a walk around the neighborhood with me. she took pictures of these beautiful dahlias we saw.
tuesday we hung around the house in the morning. i did my invoicing for work. then we met kay and fritz for lunch at 'blue star pub' in wallingford. it's a great kid-friendly place with delicious food. we had fun hanging out with them. ashford went to fritz's for a few hours after that and azalea spent most of the evening with sisi. they were filming a commercial together :)
wednesday morning ashford had an orthodontist appointment. he's had a bottom invisalign retainer since january and they just added the top one. he will have both for about 4-5 months when he will hopefully be finished. yay! in the afternoon we met kay + fritz, lynsey + raleigh at the mounger pool. azalea brought sisi along. it was a perfect day for it. the kids had fun and i mostly got to catch up with kay and lynsey while keeping an eye on the kids in the water. ashford had karate again in the evening.
thursday we had tickets for the mariners vs. twins game. we bought the nicest seats i've ever sat in at a major league game (4th row along the third base line). it was supposed to be all four of us, but thatcher wasn't feeling great and decided to stay home at the last minute, which was a huge bummer. the kids and i took the bus downtown then walked to the stadium. we were so excited when we saw how close our seats were. we ate lots of over-priced food and enjoyed watching the mariners win 5-0. we would have been okay with a twins win too :)
we were very hot and tired by the end of the game, though i have to say the new pitch clock is awesome. the game ended in 2.5 hours. we relaxed at home the rest of the night.
friday morning we woke up to cool and cloudy skies. we had plans to meet kay and fritz at golden gardens in the late morning, but we pushed it off until afternoon when it was supposed to get nicer. azalea brought her friend clementine along and we spent a couple hours hanging out at the beach. it ended up being a beautiful day. then we got ice cream at little coney and stopped to see clementine's backyard chickens when we dropped her off.
that evening, azalea's friend penny came for what was supposed to be a sleepover (i know, all this action makes me tired too). i took the kids to chipotle for dinner and they played video games, board games, and watched tv the rest of the night. penny did not end up staying the whole night, but that's ok :)
saturday was a low-key day at home after a very busy week. the kids were not amused, but we all needed it. thatcher made waffles and bacon for breakfast. i escaped to the gym in the morning. it's been harder to find the time to go this summer. we got groceries, went to the library, cleaned the house. and i spent lots of time reading on the deck. we made dinner and watched tv to end the night.
sunday morning we were up and out the door to drive to our property and to go biking up near bellingham. it was a new trail for us and wasn't paved for the most part, which was a little challenging for the kids. we biked about 7 miles total. the scenery was beautiful.
then we stopped by our property to water the trees and cut back some blackberry bushes. the day got away from us, so rather than getting home and eating a late dinner, we stopped at our favorite new spot, 'blue mountain grill' where ashford ordered this first shirley temple. we were laughing at how huge it was when it came out. i loved them as a kid. he thought it was just okay. :)
we didn't get home until 8:30, but it was such a fun day trip.
now we are in the last 3 days before we leave for minneapolis! we can't wait.
