more baseball playoffs, anniversaries, silver lake cabin weekend

last monday marked eight (!!) years since we moved to seattle. i know i say this about everything time-related, but how is that possible? we are now land owners in washington, but continue to rent for our primary residence. i still miss so many things about minnesota (the top of the list being our family and friends), but we've settled into a great life here and i'm thankful we got the opportunity to branch out and try a life that we didn't expect.

that evening ashford had another playoff game. considering they didn't win many games during the regular season, these post season games sure have been exciting. this game was the third round (out of five). they played a team they've played many times before and ended up winning 10-9. it was so fun to watch!

on thursday the kids had their annual check ups at the pediatrician. they both keep growing! azalea is a half inch under 5 ft now. ashford is 4ft 5.5 inches. azalea had to get one booster shot, but otherwise it was an easy appointment. something i try to never take for granted.

the fourth round of playoffs was thursday evening. unfortunately ashford's team got beat, but it was probably for the best. the championship game was saturday and it was against a team that has been undefeated all season. plus we were going out of town. it was a bittersweet end to another baseball season. i love ashford's coaches, and his teammates' families. i'm already looking forward to when it all starts up again next spring.

friday was thatcher's and my 16th wedding anniversary! we picked up the kids a little early from school to drive to silver lake county park near our property where we rented a cabin for the weekend. it should have been a 2.5 hour drive, but it took 4 hours because of traffic and multiple crashes. we were so glad to finally arrive. it was a cool/misty evening, but we got set up at the cabin and made chicken kabobs on the grill for dinner. we also had smores of course!

saturday morning we awoke to cool and rainy weather again. kind of ironic after 5 weeks of nothing but sun and warmth. oh well. we made pancakes, eggs, and bacon for breakfast. thatcher and i drank our coffee on the covered porch. the kids had hot chocolate.

then we decided to do the 1.2 mile loop around the park. the lake is so beautiful and it was fun to see the campsites too.

we came back to the cabin for lunch. then we headed out to our property which was just 15 minutes away. we hoped the neighbors would be there to meet the kids, but they weren't home. we trudged through the very tall, wet grass and all of our sneakers got soaked. it was the kids' first time there since last september when we bought it. it was fun to show them the stakes where the corners of the future house will be. we also got the see the show cows next door :)

we hoped to rent canoes to take out on the lake when we got back, but it was still rainy so we decided to save it for sunday. we spent the rest of the afternoon inside, cozy with the fireplace. some video games, naps, and reading. there is no cell service at the park, so we were pretty unplugged which was kind of nice.

we grilled our dinner again - burgers. and had another round of smores (with reeses peanut butter cups - so good!).

sunday morning it looked like the weather was off to a better start.

we had breakfast and coffee, cleaned/packed up the cabin and checked out. then we headed over to the boat rentals. we got two canoes and took the kids out on the lake. it was both of their first times canoeing and they loved it. i don't think i've canoed in close to 15 years. it was a beautiful morning for it.

then we hit the road for home. thankfully it was a much faster drive this time. we also stopped at a restaurant called 'blue mountain grill' for lunch, which had great american and thai food. we will definitely be back there!

today is thatcher's 41st birthday. he took the day off work, but we are having a low-key day after our weekend away.
