seasonal allergies, battle of the books, mother's day
both my kids had really bad allergies last week. i thought once the trees were done blooming, things would be better, but the pollen count was still rated high here. we do an air purifier upstairs, allergy medication, and eczema cream for azalea. her face got swollen, itchy, and painful due to eczema like it does when we go to florida. my poor girl :( she has an allergy appointment next month, and appointment with the regular pediatrician today.
last tuesday evening i went to a "reopening mixer" for the inc. you might remember a few years back i was on the board of the inc, which is a co-working space with childcare. they have been shut down since the beginning of the pandemic but recently announced they will be reopening in a new space this summer. my kids have aged out and i'm no longer affiliated with the organization, but i went to the social to catch up with some old board members and staff and it was so fun! it was held at 'old stove brewing' on the ship canal in north queen anne. it was my first time there. it was so nice to catch up with people i haven't seen for a few years and i'm so happy the concept is getting a reboot.
on wednesday morning i met kay at school to help collect snack/drink donations from fellow third grade parents for the teachers lounge for teacher appreciation week. and wow did we get a lot! probably 30-40 packs of sparkling water, cold brew, chips, popcorn, yogurts, granola bars, etc. we stocked the fridge and put all the other stuff out so it was easy to grab. success! in the afternoon, i went to azalea's school to watch the middle school 'battle of the books' competition that she entered. there were 3 teams and each kid was tasked with reading at least 2 and up to 5 books that they needed to know inside and out. the books were the same for all the kids. during the competition they had 30 seconds to answer each question (multiple choice, true/false or short answer) on a note card and turn it in. the librarian asked me to be the time keeper :) azalea's team ended up winning and it was a lot of fun to watch! this week her team will compete against another k-8 middle school.
thursday evening ashford had a baseball game. it was at the field right by our house and it was a beautiful night. i was scorekeeper again (ha!). they lost 10-12, but it was such an exciting game and both teams played so well.
friday evening ashford had practice. we ate an easy dinner and i spent a long time out on the deck reading my book because it was such a beautiful night.
saturday kicked off a string of 80-90 degree days. which is kinda crazy for seattle in may! (though it's becoming more common). thatcher went up to our property to water the trees he planted because there's been no rain lately. the kids and i hung out at home all morning. in the afternoon azalea went to her friend lilah's for a few hours. lilah's mom sent this picture of them beating the heat :)
ashford had a baseball game in the evening. they got absolutely pummeled by the other team. :/ after the game i took azalea, ashford, and arlo to pagliacci pizza for dinner. it was a beautiful night! then arlo spent the night at our house.
sunday was mother's day! thatcher made us french toast and bacon for breakfast. i enjoyed it with my 2 actual children, and 1 honorary kid (arlo). arlo got picked up and the rest of us got ready to take a bike ride down to golden gardens. we made sure to go early because it was forecasted to be in the upper 80s. it was already packed down there before 11am. but i'm so glad we went. it was a nice ride, we enjoyed some time by the water, and also got soft serve twist cones from 'little coney's'.
we made greek chicken pita sandwiches for dinner (a family favorite) and i picked up some key lime pie for dessert. i ended the evening on the deck once it cooled off a bit :)
another busy week ahead....here we go!
