upcoming reunion, 6th grade curriculum night, 3 day weekend
it was another busy week around here...
last monday i found out my 20 year high school reunion is happening the saturday after thanksgiving in minneapolis. yes, they are planning it pretty last minute, but i knew they were looking at dates/venues and really want to be a part of it. i hopped online to look at flights and ended up booking the same flight my brother will take home from seattle the day after thanksgiving. and i will stay until monday. i am so excited i get to go! i had a lot of fun at our 10 year reunion and i think this will be even better. but can some one explain how has it been 20 years already?! in other news, i also got my hair chopped on monday afternoon.
tuesday kay and i spent a couple hours at school in the afternoon, compiling supplies for the fall festival we are planning for 10/29. it's a lot of work, but it should be a really fun event...and then we can be lazier grade reps for the rest of the year. ha!
wednesday afternoon the kids both had cleanings at the dentist after school. always a fun time ;) they got good reports, but ashford might be heading to the orthodontist soon for a consultation. in the evening, the kids stayed home alone for their longest stretch yet so thatcher and i could attend curriculum night at azalea's school. we got to visit her homeroom + all 6 classes and hear from the teachers. it was really fun! i'm so happy with her new school so far.
thursday after school azalea had a new friend over (sabine). one thing i was really looking forward to with her starting middle school is to meet some new friends and she has :) ashford had arlo here, so it was a full house. the district approved the new school calendar that includes make up days for the strike. the new last day of school is 6/30 and could be even later if there are any snow days this winter. wow! i went to bartells during the day and spotted these creepy dolls for "only" $40. what a deal.
friday the kids were off school for a teacher in-service day. they have it every october. we had no plans for the day, which is kinda nice. thatcher took our car up to our property to do some yard work. sisi and thelonious knocked on the door in the late morning, so the kids went over to play with them. then i took my kids to pagliacci pizza for lunch. they re-connected with sisi and thelonious when we got back. it was a nice low-key day. we made dinner and watched a movie.
saturday we had no plans again. we skyped with my mom and brother in the morning. ashford got invited to go to a petting zoo/pumpkin patch with arlo and his mom in the afternoon. on their way back, she let me know she had two extra tickets for the 'ballard wine walk' that night and asked if i wanted to join. yes please! arlo hung out at our house for a few hours because his dad and brother were at the mariners game. the wine walk is a popular event in ballard that partners with the businesses. you get a wrist band and get to go around to 15 different stores and do a wine tasting while shopping. it's the first time they've done it since before covid. our mutual friend colleen went too and it was super fun! we also kept tabs on the mariners game, which went 18 innings! unfortunately they lost and and are out of the playoffs.
sunday the only thing we had planned was azalea's soccer game (which we weren't even sure would happen with the never ending smoke). they were able to play, but it was very close to the poor air quality level when they normally cancel. it was awful :( i had a headache the rest of the afternoon. they lost again, which was also a bummer. i hope they can get at least one win this season.
ashford got invited to play mini golf with arlo and his mom in the afternoon. lucky kid this weekend with all his friend outings! it got up to 87 degrees in seattle on sunday, which was record setting and disturbing. rain is in the forecast this week...finally. i've never been one to love the rain over sunshine, but we need it to put out the wildfires.
