day camp week + flaming geyser state park
i mentioned the kids had their first day camp of the summer last week. despite ashford's nervousness about going, they both had a great time. i knew they would! they went last year and loved it. i can't say enough good things about the boys and girls club in our neighborhood. it's so well run - the staff are amazing, safety is at the forefront, and they take the kids to do so much fun stuff. azalea went to some parks, kayaking at green lake, the mopop museum. ashford went to some parks and went bowling one day.
they were gone from 9am-4:30pm every day and i almost didn't know what to do with all my kid-free time. just kidding - i did my bookkeeping work, ran errands, cleaned my house, and snuck in some time for seeing friends, watching netflix, and reading. i also made a quinoa salad for my lunches for the week.
friday night ashford's friend fritz came over. we made homemade pizza for dinner and the kids played video games. ashford and i walked fritz home, which turned into both of us hanging out for another hour+ at their house :) i love summer nights like that!
saturday morning ashford was feeling a little under the weather, so we mostly stayed home all day. we got some chores done around the house, ashford took a rare nap, and we made chicken gyros for dinner. we had a family movie night and watched 'the bad guys'.
sunday morning we made waffles and bacon and hung around the house. then we packed up the car for a little day trip to flaming geyser state park. it was about an hour away near auburn. we had never been there before. we grilled hot dogs for lunch and ate at a picnic table. then we took a short walk to see the geysers. they were pretty small, but one has a flame that is continuously burning and the other one bubbled. it was pretty cool. the kids enjoyed playing in the creek too.
we made dinner and relaxed at home to close out the weekend. the kids are home with me all this week. we have a few things planned, but not a ton. school seems so close yet so far right now.
