spring break, easter, and a positive covid test
the kids had all of last week off school for their spring break. we stayed in town and thatcher was working, so i made sure to plan some fun stuff to fill the days. the weather felt more like february than april, so that was kind of a bummer.
last monday both kids had a teeth cleaning at the dentist (they would probably argue that it wasn't fun). but they both got good reports. ashford's friend arlo came over in the afternoon and then we went to take care of our friends' cats.
tuesday morning we drove to tukwila (about 40 mins away) to go to defy seattle (aka flying circus), which is an indoor trampoline park. ashford went a couple weeks ago for a birthday party and azalea has been dying to go ever since. the kids had a blast, but it's pretty expensive, so it will be a once in a while treat.
our neighbor friends (sisi and thelonius, their parents, and uncle who was in town) joined us. we all went out for lunch after at a nearby mexican restaurant that was delish. we relaxed at home in the afternoon, took care of the cats, and hung out with thatcher after he got home from work.
wednesday morning ashford went to arlo's for a good chunk of the day. azalea and i went to besalu cafe in our neighborhood for croissants and got some groceries.
it was a cold and gloomy day, so i suggested we watch "titanic" together. she's been asking to watch it for a year and knows lots of facts about the real titanic. it's one of my all-time favorite movies. she enjoyed it and i especially enjoyed the girl time snuggled on the couch. we picked up ashford and hung out at home the rest of the day. ashford was supposed to have baseball practice in the evening but we skipped it (i blame the weather and the fact that it's break). my little homebody was fine with that :)
thursday we had no real plans. we took a trip to target in the morning to buy a watch that ashford has been wanting. the kids played with sisi and thelonius for a few hours in the afternoon. i escaped to the gym after dinner and the kids hung out with thatcher.
friday morning vanessa and ewan came over and brought us donuts from top pot. yum. the sun was shining, so we went to the school playground for a while so the kids could burn off some energy. in the late afternoon we went to see sonic the hedgehog 2 at the theater with a group of friends. it's only the second movie we've seen in a theater in the last 2+ years. ashford's friend arlo came over after and i picked up pizza for dinner and the kids hung out.
saturday we mostly hung out at home, ashford had baseball practice in the afternoon and the kids played with sisi and thelonius for a few hours. we made turkey burgers for dinner and watched a movie.
sunday was easter! like many holidays since we moved here, it was pretty anticlimactic. the bunny brought baskets and thatcher hid chocolate eggs in the play room.
the best picture they would give me ;)
we made pancakes and bacon for breakfast. we didn't have any plans all day. the weather was beautiful at least, azalea and i went to the library (yes, it was open!) and i read my book on the deck for a lot of the afternoon. ashford's stomach wasn't feeling well all day, so that was a bummer. we made a bbq feast for dinner: pulled pork, baked mac n cheese, and cornbread. in the evening we busted out the rapid covid tests that the school district sent home with each student to do before returning to school on monday. low and behold, ashford's test was positive - which means he will be out of school for another week. the rest of us tested negative (for now). azalea is technically allowed to go to school if she tests negative each morning before the school day begins. i'm planning to keep her home today for sure and then evaluate. i have a feeling she will also test positive this week, so we'll just have to see. we've been pretty lucky to have avoided it for the last 2 years.
spring break round 2 (where we can't leave the house...), here we come!
