covid week, blogiversary, middle school assignment

before i get to the ahem "fun" stuff....i have to mention that last week marked 12 years of writing this blog. wow! this is my 1,083rd post. i don't say it enough, but thanks for taking the time to visit and read. i love it when friends/family tell me that they still follow along after all these years. :) for now neither of my kids seem to mind that i write about them, but we'll see if that changes in the future. i don't share everything happening in our lives, of course, but it's fun to look back at what we were up to on any particular week.

as for middle school...

last tuesday the lottery results were posted for the K-8 school in our neighborhood. azalea got a spot and so did her best buddy simone. so it's official that they will be going there. we've since learned of at least 12 other kids from her grade who will be going there for middle school as well, so that's exciting. they are looking at changing the bell times for seattle public schools next year, which means my kids might be on different schedules!

and as for covid...

ashford spent the whole week at home last week after testing positive on easter. an upset stomach (the only real symptom he had) came and went for a few days, but the worst of it was only for 24 hours. if they hadn't asked us to test our kids before school resumed again, i would never have guessed that he had covid. but i'm glad we tested and kept him home so he didn't expose his classmates to it.

watching for symptoms and testing was little less clear cut for the rest of us. thatcher, azalea, and i all tested negative on easter. after emailing the school principal/nurse on monday, we learned that azalea could go to school as long as she didn't have any symptoms and tested negative each morning. we kept her home on monday and we sent her back on tuesday (negative, fully masked and eating lunch outside). i was concerned about the possibilility of her missing a whole week of school if she never ended up testing positive. thatcher and i also tested negative tuesday morning and had no symptoms.

wednesday azalea was negative again, so she went to school. ashford and i had another day at home together (and thatcher who didn't go into the office at all last week as a precaution). thatcher and i both felt fine.

thursday 3/4 of us were still testing negative. but thatcher was starting to feel sick. :( he spent most of the day in bed with fever and chills. even though his test was negative, it was clear he had it. i was surprised it hadn't taken azalea or me down since we did not isolate ashford at home because i figured we were all exposed to him by the time he tested positive anyway.

friday azalea was still negative (and no symptoms) so she went to school. thatcher was still under the weather. i continued to feel great and test negative. covid is so weird!

saturday we finally reached 6 days post positive for ashford. he was supposed to have his first baseball game and he could have gone (masked), but he wanted to skip it. thatcher was still not feeling great, so he took it easy all day. azalea and i took a trip to the library. it was beautiful weather on saturday, so i spent a lot of time on the deck. we picked up thai for dinner and watched a movie.

sunday things felt mostly back to normal. thatcher was still not feeling 100%, but a little better each day. azalea had a spring soccer game in NE seattle so i took her to that. the weather was even more beautiful than saturday.

in the afternoon ashford had baseball pictures at the field by our house. i'm glad he was able to go, because they were his first sports pictures :)

if we were going to get covid, i'm glad it happened when it did. my mom is visiting late next week and thatcher also has a work trip coming up. i'm also thankful that it was mild and mostly just an inconvenience for us. i know that's not the case for every one.
