middle school research, a hair cut and a birthday party
the first week of february treated us well: a little more daylight with each passing day, no more sick germs, and a (virtual) middle school open house. yes, my first baby will enter middle school next fall and i can hardly believe it. the school that we are zoned for is a traditional 6th-8th grade middle school a couple miles away. that is the school we had an info session for last tuesday. it was nice to hear the principal and a few of the teachers talk about the academics, extra curricular activities, and emotional support available at the school, but it's disappointing not being able to see the school itself (no in person tours due to covid). this week we will do another virtual info session for a k-8 school in our neighborhood that some kids attend just for middle school. if azalea's interested, we would have to enter a lottery for a spot since it's not our zoned middle school.
friday night we picked up thai for dinner (and i got some key lime pie from ala mode bakery across the street) and we watched the olympic opening ceremony and the movie ice age with the kids.
saturday we ran some errands, including getting a birthday gift for ashford's buddy raleigh for his party on sunday. this picture is unrelated, but it seriously makes me so happy that he likes to read independently now. he is working his way through all the dog man books.
on our drive home, the mountains and the clouds looked so beautiful while the sun was setting, i had to take a picture while stopped at a red light.
when we got back, we made pizza for dinner and watched a movie called 'rock dog'.
sunday morning we made biscuits and eggs and then thatcher took ashford to his friend raleigh's birthday party.
