first week back, organizing bug, quiet weekend

last monday the district cancelled school and set up covid testing sites around the city for students and staff. it was totally voluntary, but i knew there would be a high demand. i took the kids when the site opened. we parked and walked a little ways only to discover that the line to get tested was 3.blocks.long. i am all for testing, but there was no way we were staying for that! so we left. rapid tests are impossible to find in stores here right now.

thankfully we got an email from our principal on monday night that they would be offering rapid testing at our school 30 minutes before the bell on tuesday. i was a little worried that it would also be crazy busy, but it was much better. we were third in line behind our neighbors and the whole thing only took about 20 minutes. both kids were negative, so off to class they went. whew! the district later reported that 4% (560) of the 14,000 tests taken came back positive, so it was definitely worthwhile. i'm less worried about kids getting seriously sick and more worried about the mass quantities of staff/students being out and affecting the ability to stay in-person.

onto something cute i want to remember - last week ashford made 3 mini golf clubs and set up a course for us around our house...all on his own. it was really creative and fun.

every january i get the urge to organize and refresh my house. this year is no exception. i've been getting stuff ready to take to goodwill. and of course buying a few new things. :) last week i went to ross and found this beautiful, light-weight mirror for super cheap! i'm going to put it in the living room above our black cube storage shelf.

i also found this cute, boho-style pillow at walmart. i never shop at walmart, but happened to be near one while out shopping with vanessa last week, so we decided to check it out.

i've been going through every closet/drawer in the house and getting rid of stuff that is old/unused. feels so good to organize the stuff that does get used. it was also a perfect project because it rained cats and dogs all last week.

we didn't really have any plans this weekend. friday night we ordered mod pizza for dinner and watched a movie. saturday we lounged around the house, cleaned, and went the the store to get ingredients for chicken gyros for dinner. and we watched another movie. sunday i took ashford to target to exchange a duplicate birthday gift. it was a gloriously (rare, as of lately) sunny day, so i decided to take a walk down to the ballard farmer's market. our neighborhood was buzzing with energy from the sunshine, it was so nice to see. i got a mulled cider and made my way through the stands.

later i took ashford to the school playground to play with his friends callum & thelonious. azalea went to simone's. and that was pretty much it.

the kids' principal sent an email today saying that there's been an uptick in covid cases at school, but not too bad thanks to their dedicated preventative measures. hoping it stays that way!
