first week back, organizing bug, quiet weekend
last monday the district cancelled school and set up covid testing sites around the city for students and staff. it was totally voluntary, but i knew there would be a high demand. i took the kids when the site opened. we parked and walked a little ways only to discover that the line to get tested was 3.blocks.long. i am all for testing, but there was no way we were staying for that! so we left. rapid tests are impossible to find in stores here right now.
thankfully we got an email from our principal on monday night that they would be offering rapid testing at our school 30 minutes before the bell on tuesday. i was a little worried that it would also be crazy busy, but it was much better. we were third in line behind our neighbors and the whole thing only took about 20 minutes. both kids were negative, so off to class they went. whew! the district later reported that 4% (560) of the 14,000 tests taken came back positive, so it was definitely worthwhile. i'm less worried about kids getting seriously sick and more worried about the mass quantities of staff/students being out and affecting the ability to stay in-person.
onto something cute i want to remember - last week ashford made 3 mini golf clubs and set up a course for us around our house...all on his own. it was really creative and fun.
every january i get the urge to organize and refresh my house. this year is no exception. i've been getting stuff ready to take to goodwill. and of course buying a few new things. :) last week i went to ross and found this beautiful, light-weight mirror for super cheap! i'm going to put it in the living room above our black cube storage shelf.
