hello october!

it's hard to believe we are in the last 3 months of this crazy year. i'm trying to get myself into the holiday spirit (meaning halloween, thanksgiving, and christmas) because i love them all, but it feels a little harder when the world feels so heavy and unpredictable right now.

another week of distance learning is behind us. i can't believe we've been at it for a month now (i say we because it feels like i am in school too - ha!). the school librarian started doing curbside pick up for books you can reserve online, so that's cool. azalea's class is reading "hatchet" together and i remember reading and loving that book when i was her age.

i spend many hours each week day sitting by this window while we do work/school time. the birch tree is slowly changing colors and it makes me happy to see the yellow leaves start to take over :)

on wednesday we met our friends kay, wyatt, and fritz at golden gardens. it was a hazy day, around 70 degrees, but that didn't stop these kids from pretending it was still summer. they played so well together for 2.5 hours.

we added some touches of halloween to our fall decor now that it's spooky month :)

thatcher took the day off on friday to do a hiking/camping trip with his friend chris from work. they had a great time. here are a couple pictures:

it felt weird solo parenting over night for the first time in who knows how long! i made things easy on myself by picking up burgers and shakes for dinner from scooters and having a movie night. i let the kids sleep in my bed. as soon as they were settled, i went back downstairs and made myself some popcorn, poured some wine and watched one of my favorite fall movies (you've got mail). it was a nice little night :)

saturday morning azalea had soccer. she got a ride from a friend because thatcher was gone with our only car. vanessa and ewan came over for a play date in the driveway. thatcher got home around lunch time.

sunday we decided to go to our favorite pumpkin patch, bailey farm in snohomish. it's been getting increasingly more popular over the years (when we first went in 2016 there was hardly any one there), but they require masks and it's a wide open space, so it still felt safe to me. it was a cool, foggy morning. we picked out our pumpkins and the kids climbed the hay bales. i got some apple cider to take home.

my pictures sure make it look like no one else was there - ha!

when we got home we made hot cider with mulling spices - yum!

thatcher and the kids also made homemade pretzels (gluten free and regular)
