full school days, fresh air returns, reunited with old friends
i mentioned that the kids' number of hours of distance learning was increasing this past week. they both are online from 8:30 til 2/2:30 every day except wednesday, which is shorter. it's a lot of logistics and coordination since they don't both follow the same schedule. i'm thankful that azalea is pretty much able to manage on her own during the day, so i can concentrate on ashford. hopefully it will feel like second nature as time goes on.
speaking of nature, the wildfire smoke stuck around much longer than they originally thought it would because it didn't rain early last week. so we spent almost the entire week indoors again. it was hard, mentally, to not even be able to go out on the deck or for the kids to be able to play outside. and it was sooooo hot in our townhouse. despite being 70 degrees or cooler outside. things slowly improved through the week and by this weekend we were able to be outside again.
my mom sent the kids a "back to school package" this week. azalea got 4 new dresses, which she's been modeling daily ;) ashford got a small lego set and a batman sweatshirt.

on saturday morning we woke up to GOOD air quality for the first time in 10 days. so exciting! we decided to drive to redmond to visit a bakery, hang out in the plaza across the street, and check out some light rail construction. it felt so nice to be outside! we went to hoffman's bakery and picked out some treats. it was wet at the park, but not raining.
on sunday morning we got to meet up with our old neighbor friends martine, josh, bruce, and beatrice. they have lived in mexico city for the past 2 years and they recently moved back to seattle. we've missed them so much and we are so happy they are back. ashford and bruce were such good friends before they moved and i was a little worried they would feel shy around each other after 2 years, but it was like no time had gone by at all!
