minnesota: week 1

we've had lots of downtime this visit (thanks to covid), so i'm getting some blog posts written before we even get home :) we spent the first week of our visit staying with thatcher's parents. it was nice and relaxing. we hadn't seen his parents in 9 months, so the kids were super excited. thatcher and i worked most days we were there (since we're gone for such a long stretch).

we hung out at their house a lot and tried to stay cool in the humid minnesota weather ;) the kids had a ball playing with all of their dad's old toys and grandma always has a craft or activity in her back pocket for them. the quadro is still a hit to play with in the yard.

thatcher and i got out for a few day-dates. we would pick up coffee or lunch and then drive or walk around the city looking at what has changed. it was eye opening to see the destruction from the racial protests and riots back in june.

every night we would all go for a walk in the neighborhood after dinner. it was one of my favorite parts of the week. summer nights in minneapolis are so beautiful.

thatcher and i rented the upstairs unit of this house in 2006 when we were engaged.

we got to experience some awesome thunderstorms (which we rarely get in seattle), so that was a treat. azalea loved them, ashford not so much. ;)

we took a walk to lakewood cemetary one morning. we found my grandparents' grave site (my mom's parents). ashford and i left before everyone else to walk back and thatcher, his parents, and azalea all got stuck in a downpour and we had to come rescue them with the car:)

then we headed to my mom's for the rest of the trip, but i'll write about that later :)
