lots of rain, a roof leak, and an old friend in town

this week the rain returned. i've been trying to embrace it. it's easier to do in october than april ;) azalea had a super rainy practice on wednesday night, but she was a great sport about it! we also got her soccer pictures back and they are so cute! these are the first professional sports pictures either kid has ever had.

i've been eating lots of fall-inspired dishes lately. i threw together this arugula salad for lunch one day with (warm) butternut squash, apple slices, parmesan cheese, toasted walnuts, and a little olive oil, lemon juice, and maple syrup and it was so good!

i got my hair cut on thursday. i took 3 inches off, which isn't monumental, but it feels nice and fresh.

the colors in our neighborhood continue to stop me in my tracks, but i can tell we are past peak now as the leaves are coming down more and more every day with the rain.

on thursday after school we drove all the way to "funtastic playtorium" in lynwood for ashford's buddy archer's birthday party. the kids had a blast running around and eating pizza and cake and i didn't have to make dinner, so it was a win-win.

friday night was "parents night out" at the kids' school. you can pay to drop off your kid(s) from 6-8:30pm and a few teachers from the school do activities with them (gym, crafts, movie). it's very popular since a lot of people don't have family in town. this was the first year that both kids could go, so i was psyched! thatcher and i went out for dinner at a new place in our neighborhood called "secret savory." it was nice to have a meal together and get to chat. we also got ice cream after at "salt and straw"...even though we were stuffed ;)

saturday morning i went to the gym and when i returned, our house looked like a disaster zone. thatcher heard water dripping in our walk-in closet and discovered it was coming through the ceiling and window frame :( we had to move everything out of the way and put down towels and buckets. we called our landlord and they are supposed to be getting in touch with some one to fix it. what a pain! at least we don't have to pay for it. i'm very thankful for that :) there is a deck above there that seems to be letting water in.

we were all going to go to azalea's soccer game, but the leak happened and it was steadily raining, so thatcher and ashford stayed home. i took her to the grocery store first to get team snacks and juices for after the game and then she played. it was really wet, but that's life in seattle. they only really cancel games if it's storming.

again, azalea was such a good sport - she even played goalie.

somewhere between the store and the field, my credit card fell out of my pocket! i searched for it and even went back to the store and asked if any one had turned it in, but no luck. i canceled it immediately when i got home. it's always something! we relaxed at home the rest of the day, made tacos for dinner, and watched "coraline" for movie night.

sunday morning i got to meet up with a friend from minnesota (who now lives in california). erin and i have known each other since kindergarten! we went to elementry school and high school together, but i haven't seen her in at least a decade. she and her husband came to seattle for a long weekend and we decided to meet up. the three of us had brunch at bastille on ballard ave while the farmers market was going on. it was so fun to see her and catch up! nothing makes me happier than getting to do things like that :)

it rained pretty much all weekend, so it was perfect weather for lazying around the rest of the day. ashford's buddy cameron came over for a play date, we made dinner and relaxed.

today i get to volunteer in ashford's class for the first time, so i'm pretty excited for that!
