seattle heatwave, night out, mother's day
it was a record-breaking heatwave in seattle this week! low 80s for multiple days in a row (yes, that's record-breaking in early may. ha!) it felt so good because it's dry heat and we live in a ground floor apartment, so it stays cool inside. we spent as much time outside enjoying the sunshine as we could!
monday ashford and i went to golden gardens after preschool with vanessa & ewan, and erica & alec. it was beautiful there and the boys had lots of fun together.
we spent lots of time at the ballard community center, as usual. this is ashford's new favorite activity there.
and lots of time in our front yard. they played and i read...in between me having to retrieve the ball from our sorta busy street.
friday afternoon/evening was a rough one. the kids were fighting with each other (and me) pretty much non-stop from 3:30-6:30. by the time thatcher got home from work, i was at the end of my rope. he offered to hold down the fort if i wanted to go for a walk, so i did and it helped a lot. just keepin' it real that it isn't all sunshine and rainbows over here :)
on saturday morning i went to the gym and thatcher and the kids went up to the school playground. thatcher had plans to meet friends for lunch, so the kids and i decided to have our own lunch date at scooters. yum!
then i took them up to salmon bay park, but there wasn't much shade, so it was pretty toasty. in the evening i met up with 3 fellow moms from ashford's preschool for drinks. we haven't hung out without the kids before, so it was exciting! we planned to go to a new cocktail bar in our neighborhood called "bakers" but it was completely full, so we went across the street to an italian restaurant called picolinos instead. i have only been there once and forgot about the fact that they have a gorgeous patio out back. fully enclosed, vines growing every where - so pretty!
it was so nice to have a night out with them and get to know them better.
sunday was mother's day! that morning we woke up to cool and drizzly weather. womp womp. the kids presented me with their beautiful home made cards, which is always a treat :)
we hung out at home for most of the morning, waiting for it to clear out and warm up a bit. thatcher planned for us all to go to whidbey island to have a brunch picnic. we went to joseph whidbey state park, which was right on the water.
he prepped french toast, bacon, and fruit and planned to cook it on our new camping stove.
it was still a little chilly and windy, but not bad. our food turned out great and then we headed down to the beach to hang out for a bit.
thatcher spotted a whale about 150 yards off the coast, so we were watching it shoot water through its spout - so cool!
we decided to take the ferry back (we took the bridge on the way there).
we got home at dinner time and relaxed at home the rest of the night. we have a busy week ahead - azalea starts swimming lessons again, i have a board meeting, and the syttende mai parade is friday night!
